Hi, What size (weight in KG) of an anchor would i need to secure a montauk in open lake. Also what length or rope and chain combination should I go for. Thanks, Irishbob |

Hi Bob, on my Montauk 170 I use a 8 pound Danforth type anchor and 8 feet of 3/8 galvanized chain. The US Coast Guard recommends a scope of 7:1 (ratio of length of line to depth). I carry 150 feet of 3/8 three strand nylon which in effect would only be good in (150 divided by 7) 21 feet of water. However the water I anchor in is up to 60 feet and I haven't had a problem yet. Hope that comes close to helping you. |

This has been discussed several times here before. You can do searches at http://continuouswave.com/htdig/ . I've got a five pound Danforth on my Montauk and it's fine.

8lb danforth on a Monatuk is what is recommended. What you need is a 4-5 lb. I use a 4lb on my 24 Baja just because I am lazy. I have a 12 but I hate using it when the 4lb holds it just fine. 8lb may not fit n the bow locker either. If you do go 8lb then at least spend another $50 and get the fortress. |

I use a Delta 4kg anchor for my Montauk with 6' of 3/16" galvanized chain attached to 3/8" 3-braid nylon line. www.lewmar.com |

The West Marine catalog rates the 5 pound Danforth Hi-Tensile (the one I have) for 18-24' boats. Oh, dear, it's too big for my Montauk 167. ;-)
