Let me preface this post with a statement; "I have read the reference sections".
The specs for the 15 hull (classic) states that the swamped capacity was increased from 1650 LBS to 1800 LBS in 1987. What caused this? What action did Whaler take to increase the capacity? Also did the weight of the hulls change too?
Now before everyone starts with their ideas, let me state that I have 2 15s in my yard. One is an 83 model the other is the 89. They 'appear' to have slightly different bow designs. The 89 appears a bit deeper and with a bit more outward flare. I am not familiar with lofting or taking lines from a hull but would like to measure the two and compare.
Thanks, Jim Armstrong

Jim,

No, the hull designs are the same. The change in swamped capacity is a bit of a mystery, but probably has nothing to do with the hulls themselves.

The 15' hulls also used to have a 75 hp maximum horsepower capacity that was later reduced to 70 hp.

The maximum number of persons capacity also changed from what? 7 to 5?

I believe these changes were simply changes made by Whaler for practical reasons after the boats had been in use for a while. The numbers do not come from any super scientific, formulaic calculations.

I currently have an '83 Sport and an '87 Super Sport and in my yard and the hulls look the same to me.

I had a 79, 83, and an 88 and they all looked alike.
