Been looking at 1993 21 whaler, asking 22,000. On rainy vacation day, went to Lanoka Harbor (NJ) whaler dealer just to look at the cockpit space and lyaout of the conquests--not to talk to sales people, just to crawl around and look.Had a 25, 27 and 29 all with clearly posted price tags--starting at like 55k or therabouts and going up quick. I did not even look at tags because not interested. Wife sees tags. Next day she asks what I want to do about boats. I say really tempted to make a move, but always thinking about the money--I meant on the 21. She says money no problem, okay with her and asks if I am getting the 27 Conquest!! After I fall over, I explain I was thinking about the 21 Outrage. What a woman! (Never bought either.)

I must say I admire your restraint NB.I think under similar circumstances I might [would] have been tempted to add to my Whaler family.. |

Get that boat you want!! You only live on earth once. Don't break yourself. If you and the Wife like boating, I can't think of a better boat to be in. My Wife had a BIG RED RIBBON on our 25'WT for Christmas 1986 and her birthday is on Dec 24th. We still have the Whaler and each other for 33 years. |

Don't take her with you for the negotiations! When I was buying my wife a diamond, she was so excited she blurted out "Take it" when there was clearly a lot more wigglr room left in the price. |

Tell you what, there is alot of truth to what has been said about "female friendly" boats. Getting the passnegers out of the wind and sun of a center console is a big plus for the ladies. I bet the newer 4stroke etc engines (quieter, less smelly) are a big plus as well. The more the wife enjoys the better and the more likely to have a larger boat and to spend more time out on the water. I need a boat with a little cabin (to break the wind really) and to keep stuff in, big, but not too big. THe 31 with diesels is prob not the way to go, but perhaps one of the COnquests is. But, I really do not love the profile of those conquests, I must say--just dont grab me that much. |
