My newly acquired '89 22' Revenge WT WD has no tow-eyes on the whaler drive transom. Thus, no obvious anchor point for transom tie downs when the boa sits on the trailer.

Has anyone installed transom eyees for tie-down purposes?
As my trailer does not extend past the hull's true transom, would it be safe to run a gunnel' type tie-downs strap across the WD bracket (see pictures of Alkar's 22 OR WD on Burtenshs's site). Or hould I run it up over the actual gunnel's? I'm not thrilled with tie-down straps going down the side of the boat (previous tie-downs went from gunnel-top cleats to trailer, rubbing into hull-side just above hard chine). Any other solutions WD owners have tried?

Thanks!

A close friend with a 25' WT Revenge uses a strap with two large sponges, that are placed at the hard chines. Works great. Each sponge is slitted the the strap fed through the slits.

Be sure to give the strap at least one 180 degree twist between the chine and gunnel to eliminate the wind vibration.

I've got no tow-eyes on the transom of my 22' Outrage WD. I use a strap across the gunnels. I've got 4 pads on the strap, 2 are positioned at the chines and 2 are located on the edges of the large teak rear hatch on the WD. I've heard of problems with wear on the rubrail from the strap. My boat has the heavy-duty commercial rubrail and so far I've seen no problem with wear at that location.

I think that you might be able to install tow-eyes on the boat transom above the WD and then run the straps down through the gap between the WD and the hull.

When I first aquired my Whaler, although it has eyes on the transom, it came with clamps that "snap" up and tighten the tie downs to the transom. They clamped over the top of the transom.
