Have recently been looking for a 19 Outrage in great shape. As part of my searching I have looked at a lot of pictures.

Noticed that around 1993, the Doherty hull remained the same, but it appears the interior changed pretty substantially. In those 93 through 95s witnessed, the center console appears to be molded directly into the deck. This is also the case with the pilot seats or leaning post, which seem to rise out of a base that is molded into the deck.

1) Is this accurate?
2) For what years is this the case?
3) It would seem that the molded seat / leaning post base takes up a fair amount of room aft of the console. True or is this an optical illusion?

So far, I am attracted more to the drop-in interiors more similar to those of the Montauk, but would appreciate an argument to the contrary.

Below I provide a URI to a long article which ends with some detailed discussion of the interior of the Outrage II. This information should answer some of your questions.

Scroll to near the end to find the info on the boat.

JimH: Thanks a million. Yesterday I read pages 2,3 and 4 and of course, many answers were in the page 1. did Jim Gibson's boat come equipped with the hinged console?

One boat I am evaluating to buy is described as a 1992 Outrage 19. The interior is different from the Outrage II. It apparently has the same larger / higher center console you'd find in a 92 22' Outrage (it is the same higher, Montauk console that is in Jack Martin - Whalerdude's 22) and also the classic teak backed RPS from the Montauk.

Is this set-up possible for a 92? Did they make both the Outrage and Outrage II in 1992? Would appreciate insights.

Bob

Bob, I have a 1992 Outrage 19. Mine does not have the hinged console. A picture of it can be seen in cetacea 67-05. I don't know if it shows what your looking for. The console is mounted to the deck, not molded in to it. The RPS is on legs, also not molded to the deck. Whalersman (Joe Kriz) Is/was compiling a list of Outrage serial numbers that you might find useful. Joe

There has been prior discussion on this. As Whaler made the transition from the traditional 18 Outrage (first called a 19 in 1990) to the 19 Outrage II, a few 1992's were produced in the older form, due to demands and screams from the Dealers/buyers. This must be one of those boats.

JoeH: That is a gorgeous boat. Interesting that the console is slightly different than the '92 for which I just received pics. Do you find yourself using the rear seat much? Looks like it takes up quite a bit of space behind the RPS

Larry: Was hoping one of these notes would prompt a post from you. Cannot find your e-mail address in my file. Chesapeake is looking good and up for sale and hoping to step up to the Outrage soon. As such, have been reading the 2000 Rendezvous pages featuring t/t Whale Lure.

My brother is trying to convince me to step over the 19 and into a 20. Just haven't seen many around.

I have a 1991, 19' Outrage. It has the classic features, including dropin console, RPS (with fiberglass backrest, which is different than Joe's 1992?!). I've had several strange converstions with WJ Miller, and have had to argue with them that my boat is NOT an Outrage II. They claim that any 19 made after 1991 is an Outrage II. Whaler told me the distinction is the flip forward console. If it has a flip, it's an Outrage II.

The 1992 Outrage II is white on the outside, and grey on the inside, has a third liner shell, and cannot accomodate twin engines. Because of the additional liner, weight also increased from 1250 to 1900#. One of our cruising companions has one, and they are a very nice boat. It is pictured in the Rendezvous and Sail Log sections.

Bob, thank you. We use the rear seat alot. We have two little girls age 3 and 5 so having a seat for everyone is important. Most of our boating is inland, family and friends kind of stuff. This is my first Whaler but I couldn't be happier with it. I don't think we lose too much room with the seat and it comes out by removing a few bolts. Only then it is a pain to store so I leave it in rather than risk messing it up. Also, I do have the full notched transom. Joe
