`hello friends,

i'm emailing you at .09 euros/minute from a webcafe in bruge, belgium. my family and i just completed a four-day biking trip thru holland, along scores of canals and rivers, and while we saw hundreds of boats of all sizes, shapes, types and conditions...not one Whaler, so far.

And for those of you who jumped on my case for repowering my old `katama with a 50 hp motor as `'underpowered`'...here many large cabin cruisers are putting along pushed by 15 hp outboards! `of course, they never go faster than five or six knots, and gas costs five bucks a gallon.

Anyway, miss our conversations and the always good informtation `i get from this site...i'll bore you with a full report about boats and other stuff when i get back.

jimh...sorry about the punctuation...this compiuter is glitzy and `i'm in a hurry to get to the beach...it's 38 degrees celsius ... 100 plus f. ... here at 11`;00 am....they say it's the hottest summer europe has seen in a hundred years.

Regards,

Tony

Tony,

Does the spoken Flemish language sound as bad as the name sounds?

The Weather Channel just reported that it was 100-degrees in London today, a record, and the highest temperature ever recorded in the United Kingdom, going back to the 1880's.

I guess Europe is in a heat wave.

There is a dealer in Belgium that handles Boston Whaler. You might find more of them there.

It's the hottest summer in 150 years. There's no AC anywhere because they usually don't need it. The only place to go get cooled off is in the car or at the beach (which has some advantages over here given the swimsuit optional areas ;))

I've seen two Whalers down here on the Rhine. One was a 13ft Coast Guard (or what ever they call them here) painted with a bright orange stripe down the side. The other was a Montauk. It too was painted on the outside only blue this time. The 13 was in good shape but the Montauk was a little rough. It still had all the wood, console, seat and rails though.

`yes, Flemish sounds like folks are gargling with salt water....but nothing but friendliness, unbelievably beautiful architecture, and good food.

Still hot as hell in s. Belgium...went swimming yesterday with the entire population of Bruge in the `north sea...tide was down and you had to wade out a quarter mile to get wet up to your waist...an orange lifeguard inflatable with a huge black `mercury outboard zoomed around among the `'swimmers`' causing more danger than the placid sea. Damn thing buzzed around like a huge black and orange hornet.

Still no Whalers spotted...but `i'm looking.

Danny...where are you on the Rhine`/

Dumped my 17-yr-old lad at an Amsterdam youth hostel a couple of days ago, and just got a not-unexpectedly garbled email from him saying he's having the time of his nasty teenage life...but he misses salmon fishing ...sure!

`leaving for `paris today with my wife and 14-yr-old daughter....maybe Whalers on the Seine.

A tout a l'heure,

Tony

You left a 17 yr old in Amsterdam alone? WOW!!! I wish my Dad would have done that. I'm in Italy right now and it's no better weather wise. Had to spend yesterday in some wine cellars to stay cool as all of Italy's population has left for the beaches and it's no fun to go there this month . There have been a few sightings of Whalers here. Just yesterday I saw a 13' or 15' in a boatyard with no motor on it.

Finally, a BW in Europe...and zipping along on the Seine near \notre dame in \paris no less, a nice 16slash17 with a burgandy red hull, what looked like a \montauk console, and a \johnson outboard.

Won't be able to hook up this trip, Danny, but thanks for the thought.

Back in \n.Calif in a week...regards to all you nice folks, good Whaling and tight lines\/

I live in the area of Amsterdam and am one of the few proud Whaler owners. I see Whalers now and then but not too many. The police is using Whalers see:
