It's just you. You may either be using a different browser (an obscure one), or your browser settings may have changed to encode different font sets. |

This is the kind of question that the META-FORUM was created to answer. But allow me to answer it here, and ask in the future that the proper forum be used for this type of inquiry. Many of the HTML pages on the website use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). The style sheets specify certain fonts or substitutes. Use of CSS is an open HTML standard, so of course Microsoft does not support it very well, and they offer their own method, base on their ridiculous conversions of documents from their WORD products. If you ever look at the HTML that creates you would throw up. The forum does not use Style Sheets, but it does name a few FONTS in order of preference, typically VERDANA or ARIAL, which were developed by Microsoft specifically for the computer CRT display. See http://www.will-harris.com/verdana-georgia.htm for more information. At one time Microsoft gave a number of what they called "core" True-Type fonts away, but I believe that they have since changed their position and now offer them for sale. Isn't that typical? Get everyone to use them and then start charging for them. Your display may also be affected by your choice to use anti-aliased fonts. This is an option in Windows, buried somewhere in the Settings Folder. The very poor readability of most Windows fonts and the cheap low resolution CRT monitors that people use with them is, for me, one of the biggest drawbacks to that operating system. |
