There is a plate bolted to the rear inside wall of the compartment that houses my oil container and fuel filter.

That plate has wires, one red which I am trying to replace which comes from the battery. Local whaler dealer has made up new cable but I have a frozen bolt. I've tried multiple applications of WD and it's still not budging.

There are four screws, two which are used by those cables and two are free.

If I cut the red cable and leave it in place and attach the new cable to a free spot....does that work?

Any idea how to free this bolt?

Answered my own first question. That top screw is not a free space. It's holding a plate for that terminal connection of two wires.

When I removed the screw I was able to WD 40 the back of the frozen bolt but still won't budge.

Any magic tricks out there?

By "bolt" do you mean screw which is used to hold the terminal on the end of the wire to a distribution panel?

Can you disconnect the wires and remove the entire "plate" to have better access?

Any way you can post a picture?

Forget the WD40 and get yourself some PB-Blaster at the local auto parts or hardware store. It is a much better penetrating oil then WD40.

I'm sure if I could visualize your situation better I could give you some ideas.

Thank you.....

The boat is moored in the back of my house so I've been going out there and waiting to see if anyone had any ideas in the meantime.

I will get some PB Blaster to have around as while WD40 is good 90% of the time it's not always the best answer.

BUT! you are right that top screw holds a plate which hold the terminal connectors. It is not a "free space".
While I was waiting for hints from you guys I did remove that top screw and it of course removed the plate. I was able to WD40 the back of the screw as well and waited about 15 minutes and it let go for me!

Problem solved!

Now back to the original replacing of that red cable which seems to have shorted out. Hopefully it solves my core issue now...if not I'll be back begging for ideas.

Love our Whaler but whew.....they can be a challange.

Good to hear.

Hope the new wire solves your problem. I just finished helping a friend troubleshoot an electrical problem on her 23 year old motorcyle. It tied up my lift for a week but we got it.
