MPH. Or 38.9 knots, if you prefer. That's the speed I hit today in perfect water off Laguna Beach.

We were out watching an outrigger canoe race with a buddy aboard who's a paddler but who wasn't racing today. We were at the turnaround point ahead of the canoes so I pointed us toward the horizon and mashed the throttle.

I've never had the Revenge anywhere near that speed before. It was, well, sublime.

We just don't get those kind of conditions very often.

I'm posting here rather in performance because I don't have the fuel burn to quote...off the top of my head I couldn't even tell you the pitch of our prop.

But man, what a ride!!!

Sheila, I haven't been following the forum too terribly closely in recent months. I take it you have got new power? So now that just leaves me and a few others in the underpowered Revenge club.

Mike,
Good to "see" you!! How's that beautiful daughter of yours. My hunch tells me her birthday is approaching (or is my memory failing?)

Last September we hung a new 2006 Suzuki DF225 on her transom.

It was at 5500 rpm yesterday when I hit that speed, by the way....left that out last night.

Water like we saw yesterday is just about unheard of on the water. Made rough going for the paddlers, as they didn't have swells to surf down...but it sure made for an exhilarating run!

Yes, Samantha turned 5 in June and started kindegarten this month. She has taken a strong interest in helping me get the boat ready.

Enjoy that new motor. We'll make do with what we have for now, with an eye toward a repower down the line a bit.

5. Kindergarten. Time does fly!!!

I meant "on the ocean" in my previous post, not "on the water."

Sounds like fun, Sheila...sorta. I'm dialing in my new-to-me classic 15 CC/Yamaha F60 and I hit 42.7 mph per GPS a couple of days ago on the Petaluma River, very briefly! Maybe I'm a wuss--in fact the word "maybe" is unnecessary here--but it scares the living Bejesus out of me to be going that fast on the water. I can't even begin to relate to some of the folks here who glory in speeds approaching 55 kts in a Boston Whaler. Oh well, different strokes I guess. Stay safe, old friend, and see ya at the next NorCal rendezvous I hope, if not before.

Nice to hear about the speed record. _Very_ occasionally I'll be able to push my Outrage to full throttle, and have come within a couple of mph of your speed from Saturday. It just doesn't get that flat that often where I do most of my boating between Redondo Beach and Palos Verdes. It's usually easier for me running back to the marina midday traveling with the swell. Sunday 8/17 we went out for a couple of dives, and the chop was definitely up.

Sheila,

How on earth did you manage to get into the launch area? I didn't get there until after 2:00 p.m., and I had to wait half an hour before they let me in.

It was indeed a beautiful day on the water. Congrats on the speed run. Arriving at your destination is always more satisfying when your hair looks like you just stepped out of a tornado.

Tomol,
We keep her in a slip, so no "nightmare on outrigger day" at the DP launch ramp for us.

Tony,

I hear ya! It was just one of those days with rare, perfect conditions, flat water and no traffic. Zipping around like that is not something I'm likely to make a habit of, but it was fun to do once. And I'm well aware of our speed-hungry colleagues here :)

A chacun son gout.

Next NorCal Rendezvous? I thought now that you have that sweet little 15 you'd be dragging her down here in the fall, when our water is it's nicest. Come on down and boat on the part of the Pacific for which she's named!

Frank, I hear you. The Revenge was in Redondo Beach when we bought her and lived in her slip there for a few months. Further south is usually flatter.

Tomol, with the hardtop I don't get a hair out of place. And as those who have met me will attest, I am such the fashionista that I'd probably swear off boating if I had to risk showing up somewhere with a hair out of place.

OK. Maybe not :)

As my husband said, we keep her in a slip. Never do we appreciate that more than on days like last Saturday :)

We did have a clear demonstration of how much more sensitive she is to trim at higher speeds; that was an interesting lesson.
