Just another board, but it was fun shape this thing to fit just right, and finish it to appear as an original part. http://picasaweb.google.com/mgeiger72/ BostonWhalerMontauk17#5243603963941621490 http://picasaweb.google.com/mgeiger72/ BostonWhalerMontauk17#5243603590764958210 |

I was hoping for 14", but the lumber yard didn't have anything over 12". It will be plenty for my kids and to use as a footrest when chilling on the boat with the RPS flipped. It saves me a little walking room too. BTW in case you are wondering, the board was $4.45 a foot. Not bad. I used a pint of Petit Captain's Varnish - $23, about $20 of sandpaper (120, 150, 220), and a dozen 2" and 3" foam brushes. Whole thing took about 5 hours over a week's time. |

I just bought a 1" x 11" teak plank for doing the exact same thing. What did you do for securing the board? I was thinking of 2 screws on each end with a couple of screws into the top of the spashwell (I know it will require a 1" shim to secure to the spash well). Thoughts or suggestions? |

If you ever need a large piece of Mahogany or Teak check with Mike at Nautical Lumber. He has up to 8/4 lumber in up to 18"+ widths and 12'+ in length. Mike is a great guy, has great wood in stock, and builds great Whaler interiors as well. Here are some images of his stock. Mike Stennett |

Matt, Nice seat and beautiful finish. One of these days, I will have to take a picture of the stern seat of my Montauk, because I have never seen another like it. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to take credit for it. It was on there when I bought the boat. By the way... I like that last picture. This Parrothead just sat through the remnants of Hanna to see Jimmy up here at great Woods in MA. |

Here's a link to a picture of my bench seat: http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f245/frb918/?action=view¤t=Boatpole002.jpg I used stick on velcro strips under the outside edges to secure it. It's nice to be able to easily remove it for battery acess and when extra deck space is needed. Fritz |

Matt- THe wood looks great! When I refurbished my 15, I went to Suwannee Lumber as well. They were very helpful, and had some really nice Mahogany at a really nice price! I think I spent $125 total, and had enough for all of the interior wood, as well as an extra thwart seat, with some left over. -k |
