GOOGLE has just put a new photo-archive on-line: LIFE MAGAZINE. I immediately used it to locate these classic images: http://images.google.com/images?q=Richard+Fisher&q=source%3Alife |

Oops--it identifies the guy in the caption: Andrew Anderson. Do we have any history on him? |

Jim, I don't know of the Anderson gentleman. I would like to comment on the difference between Boston Whaler marketing back then and now. Notice the lack of any personal flotation device in these pictures. I guess maybe they felt the boat was the personal flotation device. Nowadays, almost all Boston Whaler marketing pictures include PFD's on all boat occupants. It's interesting how times change. Doug |

Very interesting. You're right, Doug. No PFD's to be seen on the people or in the boat. (except cushions-sometimes). One of my favorite pictures in the 1960's Boston Whaler brochures is the 16'7" custom interior hull with the guy sitting on top of the front of the console, facing forward, steering with his right hand on the steering wheel, behind his back. No emergency engine stop lanyard in those days. I wonder how many Whalers threw the captain out with an unseen wave and kept going into the wild blue yonder. |

These images are from articles in LIFE magazine, not from the Boston Whaler catalogue. |

Great photos. Does anyone know the location of the creek where Dick is running the boat up the rapids? I've always thought that was such a dramatic image, but never knew the location, or the story behind the photo shoot. |

I don't think modern catalogs show Whalers piloted by gentlemen in tweed sportcoats and jaunty top hats either. |

I second the query regarding the race he is running in that boat. Tidal outflow of some New England salt pond is my guess. |

He looks like he's having such an awful time. Was humorless professor just his marketing schtick or was it his real-life persona too? CG |

The rapids are in Cohasset Harbor, Massachusetts. |

Jim, thanks for taking the time to share those classic photos with us. Does this image bring anyone else to mind of a certain legendary photo of Tom W. Clark and his brother? |

Jim thanks for the photos. I had seen some of these, but some are pretty new to me. Looks like he liked his marketing a lot:) |
