I would be interested in hearing more about the Boston Whalers that came out of the factory in gel coat colors other than the standard white and tan.
I recently purchased a 1990 Montauk, hull number BWCM71361990, that was constructed with an outer shell of Fire Engine Red gel coat. A Boston Whaler representative emailed me to say that it was specifically built for the Miami boat show. This Whaler has the circular dark red dots on either side of the hull indicating that it has the stronger commercial hull laminate. If anyone can shed more light on these off-color Whalers I would be very grateful. Thanks, Bill

You can buy any commercial hull in ANY color you want. Not sure about non-commercial. When I was looking into replacing my smashed Whaler in 2003 I had a pretty good talk with Whaler and Ft Lauderdale marine. The commercials come in grey inside and out. If you want it white or ?? it was $500 for the inside and $500 for the outside. I almost had one made in light pink on the outside and the grey interior as to look like a 65' Viking by my old house.

In the late eighties, I saw a 22 Outrage with a red hull at the Paris Boat show. It was on display by the French BW representative. The boat was built by the commercial division as a Fire boat. Nice and stronger hull with special equipment.

O.K., I'm seeing a Navy Blue 25ft. Outrage with a gold stripe just under the gunwale, with a white bottom and red water line. A white deck with the 80's teak package and a set of twin 200 h.p. E-TECs. I'm about to short out my keyboard with drool.

I wonder what that would cost today from the Commercial Division at Whaler?

Boston Whaler made the MISCHIEF model with a hull and deck molded with red gel coat.

I've also seen mid-1990's 21 and 24-foot Outrage hulls that are green in color with a tan interior.

I own a 1997 17' Outrage II that is factory forest green gelcoat on the outside, and light tan on the inside. I was told by the Whaler dealer from whom I purchased the boat that she is a Crosstackle. However, I now believe that she was simply custom ordered with the green color scheme as the rails and interior configuration are identical to the standard Outrage.

I know of a mid to late 80's Revenge 22 with baby blue exterior gelcoat. The boat was purchased from the widow of a person who supposedly was a local Pepsico bigwig. There was a lot of Pepsi branded stuff on the boat when he bought it.

Nick,

How did you come up to that price. I think if you're close, that's not a bad price compared to similar quality boats in that price range, and motor option.

I figure:

motors/rigging $26,000
hull $75,000
special colors $2,000
teak option $3,000

total $106,000

I used $3,000/foot for hull and various current pricing on engine and rig. I"m obviously missing something.

Actually I just pulled it out of my a$$. I do have a factory pricing guide for CPD that I could look into. Some of the crap is REAL expensive in it like $10,000 trailers, etc.

Then again I think you are pretty close. Add $5k for a trailer, $5k for a T-top and canvas, $5k in electronics, few other goodies and say 7% tax, darn close to $140.

Could be the best $140k ever spent!!

For those of you who asked me to post a photograph of my 17' Mpntauk with the Red gel coat hull here is an attached to the photo bucket.
This shows the boat painted yellow with a fire hose mounted to the forward deck for the Arizona Fire Department.

Jeff

The 17' Cuddy cabin was my first Boston Whaler project boat.
I started with a $400 bare hull that had been badly neglected.
The cuddy cabin was intentionally narrowed to give me 12 inches of deck space on either side of the cabin. This allowed me to step up on to the deck and walk around the cabin with a rod & reel in hand while fighting a fish. The cabin was the height of the average chair. This was a great place to sit when fishing from the bow.
If you would like to see additional photographs of this cuddy cabin project as well as my other Boston Whalers you are welcome to view my photo bucket.

Bill,

Thanks for the other images of the 16'. Very cool project. I have a number of images of your 22' project Sean sent me when we bough the boat.

Sean purchased "Nantucket Sleighride" from my auction on ebay.
He arranged to have the 22' Whaler shipped from California to Hawaii.
We had the good fortune to later meet with Sean during a Hawaii cruise that my wife and I took.
Sean is an outstanding individual and I am pleased that "Nantucket Sleighride" is in such good hands.
