My Brother lives in Pine Beach, right near Brick - if those Whalers are going to sit idle due to man power issues, I'm sure he would be happy to go over and put them to use up and down the Toms River and Barnegate Bay for them - No charge! ^@^

When opportunity knocks....won't cost him anything to stop by and ask, given the economy they may sell.

If nothing else, offer to "ride along" so that one officer can have the assistance necessary to dock the boat and perform a routine stop if necessary.

Surely if an operator can't dock a 25' boat singlehandley he shouldn't be driving it. Defintely not policing the waterways.

It may just be that policy dictates two-person operation. I'm sure that there are safety and insurance concerns involved in that decision. ("What if someone or something happens to get hurt or damaged and it can be blamed on the fact that there was a lone operator..." type thing)

From a Law enforcement/public safety perspective, if you are bringing someone in under custody, or transporting an injury - as can be reasonably expected on the job - policy (again for safety and insurance concerns) may dictate that you have assistance - especially when docking with a member of the public (in custody or not) on board. Doubly especially during the summer when those waters get so full of boats operated by folks that have no better knowledge and qualification other than they can push a throttle forward and spin a wheel.

They "usually" drive around ALONE by me. Sometimes they hve 2 or more guys, especuially on th larger Intrepids and CG boats. Mostly it is a solo dude in a $80,000 Gausbuilt cruising around in the tower.
