This morning I swung by Nautical Lumber co. to give Mike Stennett (the owner) a hand getting some things shot to use for his site and Ebay. While there, he had a finished Sakonnet Style mini Console and RPS kit finished and sitting in a 13. Like everything else he does the quality is outstanding and the kit looked great in the 13. I think it would look even better in a 15. At 5'10" I was easily able to stand behind the console as if I was piloting as well as sit comfortably in the seat as well. He has built 2 of these kits really just as show pieces but, if there is more interest he was considering offering them as products in his line up. He is also working on an idea of a Mini Sakonnet Center Console with gunwale height forward and aft thwart seats instead of the RPS.

Here are some sneak speak images.

If you have questions you can call Mike or he should be able to answer questions here.

Very nice quality woodworking there. Stumbled on it earlier on ebay. Very, very nice. Thanks for the additional sneak peaks. zotcha.

I'd like to see how he intends to route the steering and control cables

There are a couple ways of doing it. I would propose to have a piece of stainless brake formed in to a shape that would create a low profile above deck rigging tunnel. Den Draper did a similar set up on his modified center console 13.

Is that the ribbon sapele plywood? Beautiful stuff - makes me think about using it instead of mahogany when it's time for interior replacement.

I agree it would look better on a 15 or possibly needs a blue interior. Is there enough wood in the floor to mount all that stuff?

Beautiful woodwork and a neat idea.

No, there is no wood in the floor to mount it, nor is there a rigging tunnel in a 13'. So, in order to us it in the classic 13' hull, you would need to do two things:

First, you would need to use the "drill, auger out, and fill with epoxy" method to create suitable attachment points. Second, you would need to buy some sort of rigging cap, like the one offered by Carolina Skiffs that others have used.

It would look great in a 15', but I agree, it best matches the blue interior boats, and there are no blue interior 15's out there that I'm aware of.

My preference would be for the wood console, but a Z-leg style RPS, perhaps shortened for the narrower 13' and 15' hulls.
