Checked out a couple of boats down at Gas House Cove in San Francisco the other day with my Whaler partners Warren/WT and Matt/placerville. Here, for your viewing pleasure, are some shots of SF Bay winter Whalers at home: http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b309/elaelap/PRNewYear09016.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b309/elaelap/PRNewYear09014.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b309/elaelap/PRNewYear09013.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b309/elaelap/PRNewYear09012.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b309/elaelap/PRNewYear09011.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b309/elaelap/PRNewYear09004.jpg Seven BWs with ten motors. Tony, I see an outrage in the upper right part of the last picture. That makes it eight? (: Sam |

Yep, Sam, some kinda big ol' post-classic lurking back there. Steve, I'll bet the guy has a plan to protect his boat's bottom from growth. Maybe he dumps some bleach down between the tarp and the hull. |

It looks like there is also a 27 Vigilant in the background of the second to last image. |

Must admit I've never seen that one before. Thanks for the quick response. |

Interesting, at least 4 motors had obvious "foils" on the antiventilation plate. A few I can't tell. |

Thats san francisco marina (gas house cove) area. I keep my boat there when there WAS A salmon season. Still got the slip, but the boat is in half moon bay now. The blue tarp covering the bottom of the boat is to help get rid of algae growth. Ken (170 montauk / 22 hydrasports wa) |

I love the Marina District around the San Francisco Marina with its hustle and bustle. I was there again yesterday. Here are a few shots to give you a feel of the area. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v665/warrent/San%20Francisco%20Marina/ ?albumview=slideshow Warren |

The concept of the blue tarp involves adding clorox to the water inside the tarp, or pool created by the tarp. It works well. I have never seen one attached to the boat. They are mostly attached to the dock or float in it etc. |

I'd rather be taking photos of your Whaler on the Big Island, Rene. Nice shots as usual, Warren. Why not tell out-of-townies what those little stucco Marina District dwellings go for, WT? Just make sure they're sitting down first. Tony |

How much Clorox do you ad (1 gallon, 2?) and is there any concern/push-back on the practice for environmental impact? (The old - one gallon and one boat aint gonna hurt - Yes, but what if everybody does it we'd have a catastrophe argument). |

Great pics. My dad used that tarp/bleach trick on our 16' Doral when I was a kid. Worked well actually. I was going to strip the bottom paint from my Outrage and do the same, but I decided barrier coat and antifouling was a better idea. The look of a clean gel coat bottom is nice though. - Chris |

BlueMax, I wonder about the environmental impact as well. That was one reason why I wasn't a big fan of using that method to clean the bottom. I also wonder how it compares to the polutants released by most antifouling paints. - Chris |

they are not suppose to use bleach. They can use fresh water to my understanding. Ken (170 montauk / 22 hydrasports) |
