I have a 1970 Boston Whaler with a 40hp Yamaha on it. I have completely restored this boat and have put about $5000 in it. The insurance company only wants to insure it for the bill of sale amount which was $1500. Does any one have any advise or recommendations? I am trying to find a reasonable marine appraiser in the West Palm Beach FL area. Or does anyone else know how I can document this myself as an antique? How do I find the value on an antique Whaler?

I had a similar problem with my '62 Nauset. Talk to Progressive. We agreed upon a value that I was comfortable with and they are insuring it for that amount.

depending on the value they may require a survey to determine value, but for the value you are asking there should not be any problems for $5000, if your company wont do it ask them to look into it further, it could just be that person is not aware of all the methods one can insure a boat for.

The 1976 outrage we did is insured for $65000 or $75000 if I remember correctly.

I would love to see photos of that Outrage. Was it a 19' or a 21'?
