Well I think I can honestly say that outboard companies are hurting to do business. I went down to a local boat show here in Puerto Rico and took a gander at the Evinrude E-Tec 130 and how it would look on my Montauk 190 that I puchased last June. A sales guy walked over and asked if I liked it and I immediately said yesssssssssss.

I then explained that I had a new Merc that I was forced to buy when I bought my boat. No problem he said, I can sell it for you....I said really!!!! and my eyes just lit up.

He was pretty sure he could sell it for around $7,000 to $7,500 hundred. The new 130 will cost me $9,247.00 including installation. I agreed.

I think it sounds like a good deal, I get the engine I really wanted plus 15 extra HP all for about $1500 bucks.

What'd you guys think, deal or no deal?

Fred

Why are you replacing a brand new engine? Did you have problems with the 115?

No major problems. I just never liked Mercs. Although I have had no big issues it's the little things that creep up that bother me. There is the rubber stopper where the fuel line and some other cables go into the engine that just keeps popping out. The front latch on the cowl came apart and I almost lost the cover, I know these are minor issues but I never even had minor issues when I owned passed Evinrudes or Johnsons. Plus the fact that the 115 is a little slow for the 190. I am quite sure that the 130 two stroke has better acceleration which I think the 190 needs. Fred

Enjoy your choices and your new engine...You only need to enjoy it and only you should like what you have done:)

My 90hp Mercury does the same thing. In fact..I was looking through a Whaler sales brochure the other day and saw a Motauk 170 in one of their pictures that did this as well.

I'd be very interested to hear about your engine swap and se picsif you can when you get it done.
