With my Ventura in the shop (repower) a friend of mine and I put an offhsore fishing trip together with Capt Shane and Mate Brad on the Fight-n-Lady (65 foot Buddy Davis). The water conditions were a little snooty with the wind blowing 20 + from the SSW all day. Fishing was hit and miss. We departed the dock at 3:45 am heading for the Rise (located 51 miles sse of Morehead City NC) and had our first lines in the water just before sunrise. Our first two mahi were in the box 15 minutes later. Brad worked his tail off with the spread so we could put meat in the box. We caught 7 mahi and 1 wahoo over the 7 hours. Capt Shane worked hard finding the fish. From the Rise we trolled 25 miles south working a temp break toward Swansboro Hole. There we four other boats out there with us. They managed to catch a release one blue marlin and four mahi. Thanks to Capt Shane and mate Brad!

Water temps varied 72 to 77.6. The stream was a beautiful deep blue and like a washing machine. We we doing some rocking and rolling for sure. Bottomline ... it's great to fish with good friends and a great crew!

Here is a video of the conditions and some fish action.

Tom--As always, your images and motion pictures are excellent and give me great pleasure to see and hear. Thanks for taking them, posting, them, and letting us share them.

How many miles in total was your trip that day?

Jim .....

Total miles traveled 176.

Here is some video of the return trip to the Morehead City waterfront. In the video you'll see some shots of Beaufort Inlet, Fort Macon, Beaufort, the port of Morehead City (the channel and dock areas are dredged to 45')a lumber carrier, the MHC waterfront, and the docking sequence (Capt Shane is a magican).

Tom, outstanding, as usual. Is there anything like the feeling of running 'back to the barn' after a good day on bluewater, being far offshore? I felt it watching that last video as you broke the inlet.
I trolled a slate gray Barnegat Bay yesterday for a lone 6# bluefish. First blood though, and that's how the season starts...
