I am heading to Martha's Vineyard for a weekend this summer (for a wedding) and I can't bear the thought of going over without the boat...Does anyone have any advice about finding a tie up for the few days I am there? I really don't want to rent a mooring for my little 15 footer, maybe I could get away with leaving her at a dinghy dock or ask the harbor master really nicely?

NS - the dinghy dock is pretty much a 13ft whaler or small RIBs dock...BUT, considering its shoulder season, you probably won't have a problem docking there for a few days...the dinghy dock is located behind the EYC up against a shiny new downtown building right on the water (used to be the Navigator's Restaurant if you know that spot)...all else fails, a couple days on a mooring will prob cost $30/day.SS |

sorry...i was assuming you are going to Edgartown...if you go to vineyard haven, you might have better luck jumping on a town mooring located just next to the ferries (on the right side when entering the harbor)...there is a pier you can tie onto and that might cost you a few beers:)SS |

My young nephew is doing his sixth summer on the Vineyard but I don't think Edgartown this year. He told me mooring is expensive and hard to find. I can check with him if you want. Let me know - I think he worked a Sea Food Shanty but not this year. |

If you go to Oak Bluffs harbor there are free moorings available. They are the solid blue onces closest to the street (roughly about 6 or so lined up). They are first come/first serve but don't be suprised if someone ties off you. They allow up to 4 boats per mooring. There is also a launch service that constantly runs through the small harbor. I always find a spot for my 25' outrage...even on busy weekends. Good luck! |

When are you going? I'd check with Martha's Vineyard Shipyard (508-693-0400) and mention you have a 15' Whaler. Depending on when you'll be on MV, they might give you a mooring or a tie-up to one of their docks off their back beach on the Lagoon for a nominal fee. You might also try Maciel Marine (508-693-4174), a boatyard on the Lagoon. I know they have moorings nearby. |

Thanks all for the replies!Aubv, I will be down June 14th-16th...Staying in Edgartown but open to keeping the boat wherever there is room (oak bluffs, vineyard haven, etc.)I would certainly be happy to contribute a few bucks/beers if you do have an open mooring then. |
