Hey guys, I had several requests to see the repairs I made on my 1971 Banana boat ribbed side Outrage. Instead of add them in on my other thread, I thought I would start a new post. Like I said before I bought this boat because I knew the history of it, and because my buddy was selling it and fell on hard times. His father was the original owner of this boat, so he knew the entire history of it. He literally grew up on it. I had little desire to make it original. Rather, I wanted to convert it to a real fishing maching. (Chesapeake bay area) It had the origional mahogony sides and console. I did not know this stuff had any real value so I actually threw the mohogony sides through the chipper. (I know, some are cringing now) After a little research I figured out that the console and the other stuff maybe had some value. I was able to find a buyer (on here) and we made a very aimable agreement on the rest of the original stuff. I was left with a bare hull. the first thing I did was fill in all the holes in the deck, and drill some new ones on the bottom of the boat and in the transom. It drained almost no water! Good! I was going to bottom paint the boat but the hull was in BAD shape when I got under and started looking. I had it sodablasted and you could really see how bad it was. I spent quite a few days on my back and knees with the grinder removing the old gel coat. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/ 47b7d903b3127ccec1f86cf8aab300000010O00CcMmjNqyaMQe3nw4/cC/f%3D0/ ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/[/img] http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b7d903b3127ccec1f93febca5d00000010O00CcMmjNqyaMQe3nw4/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ I regelocated, barrior coated, and bottom painted the whole bottom. Wheh! After I bottom painted it, the paint looked so good I decided to paint the entire boat with a good 2 part epoxy paint. Next was the interor. I had already mounted the leaning post but removed the gas tanks, and the console. After I painted the entire topside, the deck was looking bad. So, I painted it with a textured grey epoxy paint. Finally it was time for the console. I made it out of 3/4" plywood, glassed it, and sprayed it with the same paint. I had a fuel tank welded for it under the leaning post. It holds around 60 gallons. Mounted a new Yamaha F-150 on it and bought some new electonics for it. Constantly found way to mount more rod holders on her. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/ 47b8cf04b3127ccec5e6494fef6300000040O00CcMmjNqyaMQe3nw4/cC/f%3D0/ ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/ Here's the almost finished project. I still want to add scuppers and thru-hulls to make it self bail an reconfigure the bow a little bit. But, here's what she looks like now! |
