The gentleman sitting on the bow of his capsized 25 foot Mako had just purchased the boat, it was his maiden voyage. Whatever the cause it filled with water and turtled within 200 yards of the beach. As verified by those involved in the rescue he repeatitly refused assistance (life jacket and removal from the vessel). The Coast Guard finally ordered him off). The boat was was an older used Mako. You can see the conditions were not bad, but there was a lot of wake action caused by the bigger boats returning from Big Rock Tournament. The boat has since been righted and is sitting on it's trailer. It will be interesting to find out what caused the boat to fill with water and capsize. Whatever it was it happened fast ... the captain transmitted one mayday call to the Coast Guard. Other boats in the area came to his assistance and coordinated the initial phase of the rescue with them. The in his mayday call .... his position. Another captain in close proximity to him passed his position to the Coast Guard. My wife and I were 15 miles seaward of the accident and heard the initial mayday. Some pictures taken by one of the boaters nearby. http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv150/rchanner/CapsizeCG1.jpg http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv150/rchanner/Capsize1.jpg http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv150/rchanner/CapsizeCG3.jpg http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv150/rchanner/CapsizeCG4.jpg Tom |

My guess is that he forgot to put the plug in at the boat ramp. |

It may be easier to scuttle than to sell in this market. rich/Binkie |

Heard thru the grapevine it was caused by a a split in the hose connected to a thru hull that service his live well. |

I wonder if he will file a lawsuit against Mako for his boat sinking and causing him mental distress !! I'm glad he didn't cut himself on the prop or he could surely sue for that. |

Maybe he was refusing assistance because he would rather 'go down with the ship' than explain to his wife how he just sunk their new boat. |

I bet he didn't insure it before going out to play. Tuff loss for the guy. |
