Last Saturday my computer automatically downloaded Internet Explorer (IE) 8 replacing IE7. Seemed like an improvement so I used it without problems. That evening I could not get it to start without multiple attempts. Once it started I began all the on-line routines to troubleshoot the browser. I first tried "restore" as recommended. No good there. Then I did lots of other things all with no result. The next morning IE8 would not load. Called the ISP technical support line. Nothing would work. I was on the telephone for a couple of hours with this nice lady in the Phillipines who finally e-mailed a copy of FireFox. Problem solved and I have been able to use ContinuousWave since.

I highly recommend folks download the free FireFox browser from the Mozilla web site to serve as a back up in case of a failure of an in-use browser. In particular I recommend this action if useing or planning to use IE8.

After loading Firefox I deleted the failed IE8. Suspecting that a file had been corrupted during the download I again downloaded IE8 from the Microsoft web site. It will not load??

After using FireFox for a couple of days I believe I prefer it. Pretty good stuff with a loooot of plug ins.

Have you tried Safari from Apple? It runs on Windows machines and Apple computers.

I have been using Mozilla Firefox now for about 3 or 4 months. I generally like it better than IE7 or IE8, however, I have been to a few websites where the radio buttons do not respond. Curiously, when that occurs, I open IE and they work fine!

Firefox is, without doubt, the best browser out there, stay with it.

You will find some sites, especially those connected to microsoft, that will reject your browser. I suggest that you let them know you'll not do business with them until they choose to correct that.

Explorer has gone from 91% use to 65% in just five years. It will be gone in another five.

I agree with john10. I have not encountered any Banks or other financial institutions that do not work well with and
support Firefox. Like John said Explorer is a relic of the past and Micorsoft cannot do anything about it.

I too had all kinds of issues with MS Internet Explorer V7/V8 and all were solved when I ditched them and downloaded Mozilla's Firefox. My machines now runs like new.

Microsoft bundles Explorer with the operating system so the actual market share is somewhat misleading. New users slowly
find out about Firefox and after time switch over. If you look at the trend you will see how much they lost in just the last year. In addition business computers are installed with IE.

I have used Fire fox for years and even on my wife's Mac, As others have said it is now or maybe the best out there. However, I will repeat, there is a definite need to keep IE around for some issues or sites.

I have been using Firefox for a few years. It is faster than IE and I like the add-ons that personalize it. There are a very few websites that don't run applets properly so I keep an older copy of IE on my machine for them. I tried Apple Safari but didn't like the interface as well as Firefox and it ran slower on my PC.

Yes to all. I think I'm falling in love with FireFox. Everything loads faster even on the DSL Lite I'm using. When I click on the CW link in my bookmarks the page is up before I can blink. CW is pretty much always my first destination of the morning and the evening. Thanks Jim! I need to read the tutorial as I don't believe I'm getting as much out of the bookmarks as I should.

The only thing that may not be faster is my portal page which is AT&T's portal. Any suggestions on a good portal page?

I remain unable to get IE8 to run using the MS help page's suggestions. I'll try the telephone help soon. After my last experience I intend to keep a backup browser on my machine.

Download the IEtab addon for Firefox and say goodbye to Internet Explorer forever.

As a general topic a discussion of personal computer software and upgrades is not particularly within the realm of topics for THE GAM.

It is good to know that the CONTINUOUSWAVE website is available and loads rapidly.
