If an automobile travelled at 55-MPH for 1,800-hours it would have gone 99,000 miles. In the case of a boat, that would be equivalent to driving uphill at a good grade for 99,000 miles. |

Thanks for making it easy to read Jim; But I think that you may have forgotten to state a dollar figure. |

I would not touch it with a 10' pole unless I knew the former owner and how it was cared for and serviced. |

Actually they look real clean and I assume fresh water use by the scumline. |

Yes, Fresh water all right. The bid is up to 4600 and four days left. To the best of your recollection. How much do they go for brand new in 03? |

MSRP was $17,440. I don't know what I paid for mine because there was a trade involved. Maybe $13,000. $4,600 is probably a fair retail, but it's no deal. |

If the engine's new cost was $17,500, and we assume its remaining value is $4,600, we see that the value is about 26-percent of original. We then project this notion of remaining value onto the operating hours, thus at 1,800 hours we have used up 74-percent of the engine's useful life, assuming a linear relationship among all factors. This implies that the useful life is about 1,800-hour / 0.74 = 2,430-hours Since 1,800 hours have already been used, the engine has remaining 2,430 - 1,800 = 632-hours of useful life before its value declines to zero. |

Knowing the auction's ways; I will predict that these items may go up to 5k and more. Just wondering if the brand will still perform adequately from the record; With this many hours and more; Before numerous problems will occur. In plain words; Except for parts, are they worth consideration? |

Serge, If it was me I would avoid them with that many hours. Now if you got a deal you couldn't walk away from (for me about $3k)then that would be different story. There are good deals to be had on motors, if that is what you are in the market for, you just have to keep an eye on the local classifieds. I have found auctions to be a bit tough when its a popular item. Obviously this is not for the 19, do you have another project looking for repower? |

Hey Scott, The only Whalers offered have been the odd Sport and a couple of Montauks at premium prices. Since fuel is above $5 a gallon; And that my Merc has been known to be a thirsty one; A four stroke would make a lot of sense. It is up to fifty one, with three days left.

That motor would be too heavy for the 19. |

Yes that may be true; But not for the 21 Ribside that I will be getting.. If I'm lucky... Anyway, Check it out. http://www.bcauction.ca/open.dll/showDisplayDocument?sessionID=16454978& disID=5760619&docType=Tender&dis_version_nos=2&doc_search_by=Tend& docTypeQual=TN And importantly the shipping will have to be factored in. Jim; Would this be a 150 Johnson? |

It's a Johnson 150 with an estimated 12,000 hours. I've got the same outboard (recreational version) on the back of my Outrage 18. Let's see, if my recreational version lasts half as long, it will be 2139 before I'll need to repower. ;) |

Ritzy you need a 20" shaft for a ribside. Since gas is so $$ up there I HGHLY suggest a 115-150hp 4 stroke/DFI which will be plenty fast and get fantastic MPG compared to a 225. My 19 Revenge which is heavier than your 21 does 40 with a 115 and gets about 5-6mpg at cruise(4-5gph) and averages about 2gph per tank. At $5/gal I would strongly look in that direction. I go 80-100+ miles between fillups and usually burn about 20gals. |
