Looking straight down from a point directly over the transducer, what is the shape of the scanned area? And, what part of that area is shown on the screen? Let's assume a depth of 25'.

Thanks in advance from the world's worse fisherman.

Stephen, I might give you a run on the fisherman contest, but I have had a lot of fish finders in my day.

I would go on some of the websites of the larger marine retailers and read about the difference in transducers as far as beam width, depth, power, single beam, dual beam, etc, pixel count, b/w or color.

I have never had a very fancy one, and if you are in bright sunlight the cheaper color ones can be hard to view. I've had Garmin, Humingbird, and Lowrance. I currently have a Garmin 160color. I do not like it and believe my next ff will be another Lowrance.

Best of luck from another hopeful angler. jkc

Please use SMALL BOAT ELECTRICAL for SONAR topics.

You can get the information you are seeking from the manufacturer's literature.
