I am retired and got a 120 HP Force motor on a 24' Landau pontoon boat "free" along with a house I bought. I've never owned a boat and was wondering if I have to mix oil and gas with this motor. It is a 1997 and from what I've read was made by Mercury Marine?

Really?? Not sure why you're posting on a Boston Whaler board, there are many other boards out there like iboats and marineengineforum
As far as your question, if there's not an oil tank under the cowling then yes, mix the gas. IMHO, since the boat was free anyway, try to sell the motor and invest in a decent motor.
Good luck!

Keep the Force, they are good motors. Some people don`t appreciate simple engineering. Read this thread from a few weeks ago, on the history of Force outboards. Run the rig just as it is and learn your way along, to see if you like boating. If you do, the sky is the limit. You might want a Whaler at some point.

Everyone on this thread has been civil. The guy is new to boating. Getting a "new-to-him" boat" presumably with little to no experience with boat motors (gleaned from the question-"do I have to mix the gas") is going to set him up for a rude awakening. He's got a 24 pontoon boat that can be adequately pushed with a 50 or 60 horsepower motor. A decent motor of this horsepower can be found in this market for less than $4k. (The boat was free remember, he could probably get $500 for the motor if in running condition).
Force is the Yugo of the outboard motor industry. Very, very few of them still in operation.
Good luck gregsump.
