I just finished a complete rebuild on my 42 year old trailer for my 16ft. Sakonnet. New rollers, new bunks new paint etc. Now I am having problems when I put the boat back on the trailer at the launch ramp. For 25 years I have been powering the boat back onto the trailer with no problems but now with the new rollers the boat rolls back so far without power from the engine I can't hook up the winch. Often I'm alone and hate to jump over the front rail with the engine running and in gear. Then get back into the boat stop the engine and tilt it up and then crawl over the rail again to exit the boat. The ramp is steep with lots of tidal surge and the bunks offer no friction as they are well away from the bottom of the boat.
Oh what should I do.

It may be the bunks are not quite high enough or you are putting the trailer in too far.

Power loading a 16 ft? I manually launch and retrieve at two ramps on rivers with nasty 4 mph currents and boat wakes and don't have a problem. Then again, power loading is prohibited everywhere in my area.

I would try not backing the trailer in so much and let the boat run up on to the keel roller. Step off the boat onto the dock amidships with the bow line and pull her the rest of the way when standing on the tongue and then hook up and winch her up tight.
