Tuna is running in high numbers near Monterey about 130 miles south of my home port of Bodega Bay. So Matt and I ran Strike3 about 45 miles offshore from Bodega Bay to Bodega Canyon last Wednesday in search of tuna. The water is colder up near us and if we caught tuna they would have been wearing polar fleece. Any way, we didn't get any tuna but had a great time on the water. Here are a few pictures of our 144 mile tuna hunting trip. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v665/warrent/ 2009%20No%20tuna%20but%20whale/?albumview=slideshow Summer is almost over. I sure hope you guys are getting out on the water. Have some fun... Warren |

Great shots as usual, partner. Sorry I missed the show. Perfect timing to link this thread to the discussion of the Sea Shepherds running concurrently. Tony |

Hi Warren, impressive pictures. Must have been a great experience. What is the best time of the year from whale watching perspective? Hans |

Hi Hans: August, September and October are the best months for whale watching out of San Francisco. http://www.sanfranciscowhaletours.com/Trip_Routes. html?gclid=CMq5u9PEl5wCFRIvagodwSsFBw "3% of all ticket sales go to Sea Shepherd Conservation Society -Help us Save the Whales" I just called the above referenced company and they said it would be unusual if they did not see a whale on one of their tours during these next few months. They see Gray, Blue and Humpback whales. It's not unusual for me to see whales when I head north out of Bodega Bay during these same months when I fish for rock cod. Are you and Denise coming to San Francisco this year? If you do let me know. Tony, Matt or I might be able to get you out on the water again. I hope the waters have been good for you in the Netherlands. Warren |

In Monterey, the best season for whale watching is the first three weeks of January, with the greys migrating soutn. They are EVERYWHERE. But we can see whales most any season, and the whale watch boats run year round, conditions permitting.
