We've been spending the week down at the coast, with the Whaler docked at a marina on the ICW, about 3 blocks from our condo. It's awsome to be able to just go get in the boat and head out on the water without dealing with the trailer.

Today we made a little mini-voyage from Carolina Beach to Wrightsville Beach to have lunch at a local seafood place right on the waterway. It turned out to be a very pleasant and easy trip. The boat made it there and back on less than one 6-gallon tank cruising at about 3800 rpm, 21-23mph, with the bimini top up.
here are the photos, you should be able to scroll through with the arrows and see the captions:

Great pics. Great boat. Like the old engine.

Your post will be edited b/c Jim does not like you to call the ICW the ICW. Even though every single human being calls the ICW the ICW in the Southeast, in Michigan (last time I checked not located anywhere remotely close to the ICW), they prefer it if you call the ICW the AIWW when in North or South Carolina. But, your pictures from the AIWW look great.

I'm back in Durham now. We had a great trip. I had the boat in the water all week, and to my surprise it was almost as clean as when I put it in, took no work at all to clean it back up. Honestly I've had a worse 'scum line' form during a single day on one of the local freshwater lakes.

Nice pics. Sunset is my favorite time to be out on my boat.

Regarding 'ICW', that's what is listed as the location on the ticket I got from NC Fish and Game last Monday :-(. I figure if they call it ICW, along with all the locals, that's what I called it.
I put the boat in and had to run it literally for 5 minutes total to get to the marina from the boat ramp, they were just across the waterway from each other. I absent-mindedly left my life jacket in the back of my truck. As luck would have it out of the dozens of boats running around out there at that time, I get stopped, and issued a $150 ticket for no life jacket.

Of course I didn't see a single 'authority' of any kind on the water the entire rest of the week, when I had all my gear on board.

3800rpm and 21-23 seems VERY slow with that setup. What is WFO?

You're right, and I suspect something is amiss with my setup.

WOT yields only about 34mph with just me in the boat. It's also relunctant to get over 5500rpms. If it does creep higher I don't go faster. I have some unidentified stainless prop that was not the factory prop, and I'm thinking maybe it is a bit too much for my old 60. I should be able to reach 5900 at peak power, and from everything I've read on this site I should be at 40+mph.

What kind of fish is that? It sure looks like one of those snakeheads that have invaded some North American waterways

Nevermind. It must be a bowfin. I had never hear of them and didn't realize that a fish native to that area resembled a snakehead.

You're probably talking about the lizard fish :). Common 'pest' catch in coastal NC waters. It's not as big as it might look in the pic, it's maybe 10" long.
