Well;
I did not coin the phrase.
After having printed a letter received last night;
For the reason of reading it out loud to my better half;
As a customary fashion;
I came to voice the last sentence of the writ quoting;
"These boats get to be a sickness and an addiction, You know!"
Her response to the last words was;
"Yea this is true here, I am looking at it"
What do you mean? Was my surprised retort.
"You are addicted"
Hum, No I am not..
Well I know that I am forever scouring the wanted ads;
And that I will be looking at the ones for sale On Line..
And that I have phoned every sale prospect within my areas for prices.
I think that I may not be the only one with this kind of..interest.
Is it possible that I may have caught this enjoyment from some of you guys out there?

Hello everyone, my name is Brian and I am a Whaler addict. LOL.

Ritz, I read your post and have to come clean. I spend way too much time on C.W. reading Whaler stuff. I have 2 Whalers, I go to the Whaler rendezvous and I have way more Whaler paraphernalia in my house than I care to admit.

Your use of the semicolon intrigues me.

There is a certain Lady in my life, and not the first one, incidentally, who tells me I need to get in for De-tox and Rehab (and I don't even drink!).

And I know several others suffering the same fate. One, as a matter fo fact, is driving as I write, from Philadelphia to St Louis to pick up a classic, sight unseen except for some photos. And he already owns four, and has flipped about 3 others in the last couple of years.

My wife often tells me when she dies she wants to come back as my boat ...... does that make one?

Heck, I've only owned 7 Whalers: I'm not addicted... I can control myself... I don't need help... Gotta go - I see another Whaler ad....

Do you find yourself getting excited about going to look over a Whaler that's for sale, and you're not even the one buying it, you're just scouting for someone else?

I admit it I do!! Is a Whaler Nerd in the same class as a Whaler Addict? My wife refers to me as a Whaler Nerd...

Ritzyrags isn't addicted to Whalers. He's addicted to sentence fragments and the "Enter" key.

I love to look, always looking for new ideas that someone has come up with, sometimes things I see gives me a different/new idea. I also like to see how people take care of their boat, is it clean, not bashed up, wires are not in a birds nest, no oil/gas leaking, nice trailer, type of electronics. I just look at everything and take it all in. I even like to ask questions when I see something I do not understand or why they built/did it that way. Good luck

My daughter says she's organizing an "intervention" session for me - involving many photos of non-Whaler boats, and a tour of the Grady-White factory....

No, the only Whaler I care about is the 13 footer,
R T M posted 09-15-2009 08:30 PM ET (US)     Profile for R T M
I like the 16-17 ft. hulls too.
R T M posted 09-15-2009 08:32 PM ET (US)     Profile for R T M
Well, I like the 21' rib sided Outrage alot too, but I would rather have a 20' Bertram.
R T M posted 09-15-2009 08:36 PM ET (US)     Profile for R T M
I would pick a 25 Bertram over a 25 Whaler outrage or Revenge
R T M posted 09-15-2009 08:40 PM ET (US)     Profile for R T M
In the 30 ft. range I feel the Bertram 31 is hands down winner against any Whaler. I guess I`m not addicted except in the 13-17 foot range. Wouldn`t consider the tippy 15 footer at all.

Excellent choice 31 bertram, need to fine one/rig one with diesels....You can pull the 13 whaler behind with no problem...

Boats are like potato chips....You can't have just one !

Besides, I tell my wife she's better off knowing that I'm out in the backyard screwing around with a boat and spending money on it, rather than down at some bar room somewhere doing the same thing with strange woman......She has yet to come up with an argument against that.

After owning 20 I am not an addict, it is more like OCD.

"Supposably" I have owned the most Whalers outside of fleet owners like Clark and rental companies, etc.

My dog has a Whaler collar.

I have thought about a personalized license plate but even I know where to draw the line.

Yes I am.

I have owned several other brands as well, including Formula and Everglades to name a few.

But I truly LOVE the Classic Whalers.

I have owned a 9, 11, 13, two 15 Mischiefs, a Menemsha, a Currituck, two 18 Outrages, a 1972 21 Outrage, two 70's era 21 Revenges, a 25 Revenge walk around and a 22 Outrage Cuddy with Whaler Drive, and even an inflatable Whaler!

Man, I am sicker than I thought!

I have never owned the most popular Whaler ever made, the Classic 17 Montauk! Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Long Live Bob Dougherty Hulls!

I also like the 190 Montauk Post Classic.

Somebody Help Me........

Jim

I own a 1984 Montauk. It will never leave the family, by choice. I see no need for any other boat. I can circumnavigate the eastern US, I can go clamming in 11 inches of water and I can go 30 miles offshore for Tuna and Marlin. I haven't named it because it is simply the perfect boat. When we put our picture in the local fishermans paper, we indicate that the fish was caught aboard "The Perfect Boat".

One day at the beach, I passed a beautiful boat with a sweet looking forecabin, I say "NICE BOAT!" He eyes my weathered and well used Whaler and says, "Trade ya"

I laughed.

Nope not addicted, can stop anytime really just doing it out of boredom for recreational purposes and pure entertainment. Shoot I just keep a small stash of them to support my small controllable habit. I've been Whaler less before and could do it again. Aside from the sweating, uncontrolled shaking and sleepless nights it really wasn't all that bad.

So, there,
How many email is ethically acceptable to inquire and get a response from a prospective seller?
I have recently made an offer on a fifteen that was actually advertised as a seveteen..
And after having traveled for an hr was turned off by this exaggeration;
That is until I spent another hour driving back all the while thinking about "it"
No seats front or back to be seen and the look of a young but neglected child..
The console and steering had had better days..
So the next day, I made to my thinking an offer pertaining to the correct..model and size of the Whaler.
Sure would not want to be too pushy.

"I was actually contemplating changing my first name to Whaler"
That might be a good idea. It would read better than intragrating the first initial of your first name "B" with your last name, as in your screen name. LOL;)

I know this guy who, many years ago, changed his name to GT Mustang, everyone has called him GT ever since. Not sure about his mom. It's his legal name, on his driver's license and everything.

I have it bad, I'm on my second Whaler now, and after putting thousands into teak seating,bow pulpit, disc brakes, canvas and all the other stuff, even this year, I'm thinking about selling "Bulldog" to get another Whaler. I should take up smoking or drinking at least those habits are easy to kick!.......Jack

I don't think whaler addiction is completely the fault of the whaler owner... You see, like many sea creatures, when two or more whalers are left together for too long they start to multiply. You can't fight nature.

Many years ago a guy with the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office legally changed his name to Luke Skywalker. He's still working there, still using the name
