I'm leaving on trip this week to the Florida Keys, along with my wife and some friends. We will be staying on Conch Key. Any recommendations for boat rentals, fishing trips and restaurants?

Thanks,
Robert

This article might answer any questions that you have about beer in the Keys. The timing is a bit different, so weather won't be as pertinent.

Hi Robert I'm sure you will enjoy the Keys. Conch Key is pretty quiet but a good central location. As you know locations are noted by their US1 milemarker # (key largo mm106 - key west mm0 ).Hawks Key Resort &Marina is about mm61 South of Conch key .Then further south in Marathon The Island Tiki Bar is nice 305-743-4191.If you travel north a bit to Islamorada there are many more sites. Robbies Marina at mm77.5 305-664-9814 has boat, kayak rentals, and a charter boat. Also you can hand feed the Tarpon at the dock for a buck or two ,which will be the least expensive thing you will do here :) .Drive up to Worldwide Sportsman and the Islamorada Fish Co. at mm81.5 305-664-9271.Get a cheap beer at the Lorelei mm82 or a cocktail at Pierre's or Morada Bay. You can walk among them. Locals are friendly
Temp is 88 Sky is clear

I liked the Lorelei. Very nice view and beer is reasonable...food is not too bad considering. Chowder is a must.

Blue bird Marina about 6 mile back toward Miami, if they are still there, I have know lots of people who have used them for boat rental. Also it is a easy run back to Conch Key.

Fun place to eat is The Wreck and Galley just south(west) or toward Key West, Great burgers/fish sandwiches and chowder, and some giant wings. At least it was good a couple of years ago. No AC just open air and can be lots of sand fleas around depending on time of day/night/year.
Key West is a must, if you go, you have to try El Sobiney(sp) at 900 north Catharine for Cuban Food and local color, take cash last time I was there no CC.

Too many good places to eat, check out the Florida Sportsman forum for the Keys and they have a standing link to most everything.

Have fun

I agree, Lorelei in Islamorada is great and can be a lot of fun sometimes. If you want a fishing charter, Brian Cone of the boat Contagious is one of the best.

Islander Resort, across from Lorelei's, had a couple of 18' Dauntless for rent... at least last year. Rental shack (separate entity from the resort) is located on their beach.

LORELEI!!!! Get a T-shirt!!! Can't come back without one. Get a long sleeve and a short! Oh yeah, find Big Dick and the Extenders for an evening! Second best is a band in St. Augustine! Don't miss it! zot.

Tonight is the Full Moon party at Pierre's and Morada Bay with bonfires on the beach! Some come to remember, some come to dance, most don't remember dancing.
Cheers Chuck

I would rent a Whaler from the Islander resort. Boats are like new-very well cared for. Places to eat where you can dock-Islamorada Fish Co (literally right next to Morada Bay). The Island Grill-don't know the mm, but it is a bit north of Islamorada (Tavernier, as I recall), on the Atlantic side. South (Marathon) is a place called The Keys Fishery. Try the lobster reuben! You can get pretty good food at Bud and Marys marina, or go next door to Lazy Days. A fun little jaunt from Robbies (or The Islander Resort, if you rent your boat there) is Indian Key. There is a dock and you can explore the island on foot. I sure don't have the knowledge that conch has, but I have spent a bit of time in the Keys!

I had great luck with Tropicalboatrentals out of Marathon, new boats, new engines, adequate electronics and great service. They will deliver the boat free to Conch Key.

While they say they have fishing rods for rent, they are on the small side, so if you want to do some real fishing, you may want to get some rental rods elsewhere - there is a bait tackle shop just down the road - Big Time Tackle.

A big thanks to all the fellow members with the great advice on the Florida Keys. We had a wonderful time although it seemed like it went by pretty quickly, as vacations usually do. We especially enjoyed the restaurants - the El Sobiney in Key West was terrific 9thanks for the recommendation) and I highly recommend the Keys Fishery in Marathon. We caught a lot of fish and did some great snorkeling. The kayaking in both the Everglades and the bays of the Atlantic were super. A couple of photos from our trip are below.
