I went by the in-water boat show [in Tobay, Long Island] today, which was a nice warm day. Docks about empty, no line on boat shuttle service which was near a riot two to three years ago. Very few boats on display. Usually they are in the slips perpendicular to the dock. This year the were parallel and much dock space was still empty instead of no spaces available when perpemdicular.

Seems like people are not even dreaming anymore. Marine industry is some real dire straights from the look of this. Last year I heard one boat was sold at the show in the $100,000 range. Usually all the Long Island dealers are at this show. Many don't even exist anymore. Sad for the business of boating.

Anyone at any local shows in other parts of the country?

Some Fall boat shows have been canceled. The Boston Fall Boat Show was cancelled.

The small boat representation at the local Norwalk show was probably about 1/4 of what it was last year and last year it was down from the previous year. The massive devastation to the boating industry was visually apparent. They changed the name of the show this year to the Boat Show and Waterfront Festival. Next year it will probably be called the Waterfront Festival and A Few Boats Show.

Just this morning I heard that the upcoming New York show will only be 5 days long instead of the usual 10.

Unfortunately, I believe this is the new "normal".

I doubt that the in-water show at Grand Haven was even a quarter of what it was last year. Many, if not most of the boats, were used boats and I also strongly suspect that some of the dealers that were present last year have closed their doors. Very sad.

The Annapolis Sail and Power shows are the next 2 weekends. Both the largets in-water shows in the world. Pre sales of tickets are down somewhat from last year but still fairly strong, I'm told.

Number of boat exhibitors is down but on-land booths/accessories is full with a waiting list
