The author of this article has written a book, "Exploring the Chesapeak in small boats", which I have read. In it he devotes a chapter on what he considers the ideal boats, for exploring the Chesapeak. For powered boats, he considers the best boat to be a 17 foot center counsole with 90 hp engine. In his book he had a Mako but now he apparently has a Montauk.
