I think I posted some of these pics earlier, but with the snow flying and the year ending, it's hard not to look back on warmer days on the Adriatic coast of Croatia. http://s185.photobucket.com/albums/x234/itesija/Croatia%202009/

I noticed an American Burgee on the stern in one of the photos. Are you an American expatriate? The photos are beautiful and the vessel is great. How long is your boating season: from when to when? Is it easy to source Whalers and parts? Just curious!

Yes, that's the Old Glory on the stern. The boat is still actually registered here in Michigan, but it's been in Dubrovnik Croatia for many years now. Boat and motor parts are a problem, especially for the Merc Optimax, which seems to need constant maintenance and there is only one guy in town who holds himself out as the Merc "big motor" repairman. We haul regular maintenance items with us, but when something breaks it has to be shipped, or it must wait for the next year. The boating season on the Adriatic is year around, although December through February gets a bit stormy. Unfortunately, my season is much shorter, since the boat sits on a trailer most of the year, till we get there for about a month each summer. In the end, I probably get in as many boating days there as my friends do here on the Great Lakes who keep their boats at their house. When it's this cold in Michigan, I already start dreaming about next summer's trip. Happy New Year. Tesija

I like the Dubrovnik area, looks very nice and same style of building as Pulla / Fasana up north. I was there with our 17 Guardian that time, 4 years ago. We had a bad storm 1 night, I never forget.

Is this a 21 ft Conquest? Nice boat.

Croatia is the route for importing boats from US, since it is EU, and very low VAT tax on import. Once inn, you can free export any were in Europe.

Do you have a house in Dubrovnik were you store your boat?

Thanks for sharing these great pictures with us.

:-)

Jorgen:
Yes, it's a 21 foot Conquest, a perfect family boat for our use--mostly inshore boating, but I wouldn't be afraid to take it further out into the Adriatic. The boat stays on its trailer at the marina, but when we come we tie it up at my brother's pace, which is right on the water. That way it's convenient to use, which we do almost every day of our stay. More serious fishing is our next challenge, although those waters have taken heavy commercial pressure, depleting fishing stocks for sports fishermen.
I have similar picture posts from prior years on this site-if you run a search under "tesija". Although the Dubrovnik area is my favorite, the entire Croatian coastline, from Dubrovnik all the way to Trieste, Italy (which includes a bit of Slovenia) is chock full of islands and breathtakingly beautiful towns and villages, that you could cruise in just about any size boat all summer long. Next time,if you put in at Pula, maybe we can meet up half way! Happy New Year. Tesija

Tesija, Happy new your to you to.

I am considering my holiday for 2010 right now. Do you have any tips for area good for diving, we like to do some diving at max 10 meters and see coral and fish if possible.

Any nice camping sites in Dubrovnik?

:-)

There's a ton of diving (old shipwrecks for example) in clear warm waters around Dubrovnik, not to mention sailing, fishing and did I mention the nudist beaches? Yeah, I'm told they've got plenty of those too!
All the outfits are on the internet nowdays-you can simply Google up Dubrovnik/Croatia/ Adriatic Diving, Big Game Fishing, Sailing e.t.c. Even lodging can be found on line, especially on You Tube and even eBay, where you get to see video clips of what's offered. We do our own thing there, so I don't have any specific references, but I could ask around if you'd want me to look into any particular activity to see who's the most reputable. Tesija
