When a ship or boat carries a masculine or male name, is it still proper to refer to it as "she"?

I would refer to the USS Ronald Reagan as "she" without giving it thought, but mostly because that is how I think when referring to all larger craft and US Naval Vessels.

If you name a boat a masculine name, do you have to keep in in a closet?

Lines Brothers, Lines.
It all depend on the craft's lines.
Ever heard of a garbage barge named Fragrant Missy?

I once knew a guy named Carol, I referred to Carol as "he"... doing otherwise would be stupid...

did you really need to ask strangers this question in order to know the answer???

And, honestly, the boat doesn't give a rats a** how you refer to it, it is an inanimate object, regardless of the mystical genderizing that has become traditional.

There is a darn good reason why they initially named all boats, hurricanes, etc with women's names but now the world is PC. Why do you think it is called Mother nature....because it will rip you to pieces and eat your heart out while still beating, etc.

I thought it was because she will always give you a great ride.
