[Asked about prices and other models--Please call the seller at the telephone number above to get more information from the seller.--jimh]

[Inquired about the suitability of using a VERADO to power certain models of Boston Whaler boat. Please use PERFORMANCE to initiate a discussion on that topic--jimh]

Is there much of a difference from first gen Verado to newer models?

Thanks.

The differences in the six-cylinder VERADO from its original form (Gen I) to its current form (Gen II) are well documented in prior discussions. There were substantive mechanical changes made in the Gen II motors, and it is not possible to update or revise an earlier motor to obtain the features of the Gen II motors. For example, see:

Effect of Oil Sump on Four-Cycle Engine Efficiency

The principal changes provided for improved fuel economy in the very highest power and engine speed ranges. The EPA rating of the engines also changed. Please move discussion of the differences between a Gen I and Gen II VERADO six-cylinder motor to a new discussion, if you wish to engage in further discussion on that topic.

This notice raises the question: Where does Mercury find new GENERATION I VERADO motors to sell? Can there be that many of them left unsold at this time?

In Gen I all those motors listed in that promotion are 6 cylinder inline motors and are quite tall but being inline sixes are silky smooth. By the time of Gen II they offered a 200 HP 4 cylinder that is no taller than the unsupercharged 90 HP "Veradito" which comes on the 170 Montauk. The same basic block is used for all the motors up to 200 now. [Speculates about suitability for use on certain models of classic Boston Whaler. Please use PERFORMANCE to discuss that topic.]

The main difference internally with Gen II is forged pistons and I think crankshaft. Glen will probably expound more knowledgebly on the differences between Gen I and Gen II

Those are great prices. This is a fabulous opportunity for those who have been admiring and praising the Mercury VERADO to actually put one on the transom of their Boston Whaler boat at an unprecedented low cost.

As for differences, again, please see the referenced articles linked above. They provide links directly to Mercury presentations on the changes between GEN 1 and GEN 2 models.
