I have a 1996 - 21 Impact with the foam collar. As there were relatively very few of these made, does anyone know which standard hull model they added the foam collar onto .... or was this a new design hull that they just made very few of ?
thanks

It was an Outrage / Guardian that was padded.

That's what puzzles me, it does not appear to be a "smirked" hull. What sized Guardian do you think made the 21 Impact ?

No, it is not a padded Guardian, the hold mold, inside and out, are entirely unique.

It is possible that the shape from the bottom was derived for the 21' Outrage/Justice. It is certainly an AccuTrack design from the Van Lancker era.

Sorry, a post classic 21 Outrage should have been a Justice not a Guardian, No? None the less after looking at the CPD catalog the 21 Impact is an odd duck. When in the Keys 3 years ago n I saw a commercial products 21 with a padded collar but, that collar did not wrap around the stern. Must have been some kind of a modified hull fendering system offered through CPD.

When Boston Whaler was sold to Reebok in 1989, their venerable and talented chief designer, Bob Dougherty, was shown the door and a new chief designer was brought in.

That designer was Peter Van Lancker. He introduced Whaler's first post-classic Whaler hull designs but left not long after Whaler was again sold, this time to Meridian Yachts.

Tom,

are you saying that a 27 Aft Cabin boat was made during the Reebok era with designer Peter Van Lancker?

I always thought those boats were some of the nicest ever made (27 aft)and made during other management era's.

Interesting.

Henry -- I have no idea what "27 Aft Cabin" boat you are referring too.

Tom, Henry refers to the 27 Walkaround with 'aft cabin'.

The Whaler 27 Walkaround is not an aft cabin. It has an athwartships berth under the helm.

The Whaler 27 Walkaround is a hybrid. It is the same Dougherty designed 27 foot hull as the other classic 27 foot Whaler models but the superstructure was designed by the Van Lancker team.

The "Whalerdrive" on that model (and the other two Walkaround models) is not a Whalerdrive at all, but an outboard bracket made by Saltshaker Marine.

Thanks James...I needed that to clarify...Yes, thats the one Black Dog(Justin) has that I like so much with th twin ETEC 250's. Okay, its a Hybrid with the "Dougherty designed 27 foot hull as the other classic 27 foot Whaler models but the superstructure was designed by the Van Lancker team."

"The "Whalerdrive" on that model (and the other two Walkaround models) is not a Whalerdrive at all, but an outboard bracket made by Saltshaker Marine."

Tom, thank you as always for your knowledge on these and other topics...that is so cool to know...have to remember to let Justin know...he may know already...but the spot about the Saltshaker Marine outboard braket is also a new item to have learned about.

I absolutly love that darn boat!, It is my favorite out of so many.

An Impact is not a Outrage / Guardian that was padded. It was a CPD creation on to it's self.
