I'm interested in putting a Westland-brand bimini top on my [1995] Guardian Law Enforcement Issue 17. I went to the Westland web site and used the closest model, 1995 Outrage 17, and the width seemed narrow. Should I use a different manufacturer? I also want to use the rear support arms so it stays up and out of the way when stowed. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Rob

I think you want to select a Montauk and not the Outrage 17. I recall the Guardian 17 is the commercial version of the classic Montauk hull. The 1990-1995 Outrage 17 has a slightly wider beam than the classic Montauk.

If I'm not mistaken the Montauk didn't have an internal fuel tank and didn't have rear quarter seats. My boat has both. Guess I will just have to measure the mounting points. Thanks anyway. Rob

I may be mistaken. Does your Guardian look like this:

My boat is sitting in my back yard so I could measure my bimini and rails to get you accurate measurements.

Rob, do you want measurements?

Only if it's easy for you to access. I would appreciate it.

Rob -

I peeled back the tarp and climbed aboard.

Here are two photos showing how the Mills Bimini is installed on my boat.

There are 16" long tracks that are located 4 inches forward of the rear most bow rail base. The track is mounted as close to the lip as possible but still on the flat section.

The raised bimini is slid to the rear stop. To stow, the bimini slides forward and then lays flat on the lip and inside the bow rail. You can store it facing aft but it blocks the rear area.

The width of the track, center to center is 68". The tracks on the inside of the rail.

As for height, my bimini frame measures +/- 68". Note, I am 6'2 and it is too low for me. It needs to be at least 4 inches higher so it does not block my view and stop me from ducking my head.

Let me know if you have any questions or need more information/photos.

That is great info, so your top is 68 inches from the top of the side rail or the floor ?

The 68" is the height of the bimini frame itself. Since the bows are angled, I do not know the full height of it deployed. I would guess it is 5'9" from the deck.

That's great thanks.
