I curious. Who, on this site, holds the record for 1)the most Whalers ever owned in their lifetime and 2) the most Whalers ever owned at one time?

The two Whalers I currently own (1973 19' and 1967 Squall) are my 5th and 6th Whalers. I'm sure a lot of people on this site can top that.

What is the reason people keep getting rid of their whalers to purchase another one? I have had 6 whalers my entire life I still have 4 of them... 1962 13 still have, 1972 squal stolen, 1972 16 gave to a friend, 1975 16 still have, 1978 11 still have.

Six total, currently own three. A 13'& 15'sport, both totally refurbished, repowered & modified to center console's, and a 22' outrage cuddy.
The first two both Montauk 17's, were sold to upgrade to a larger boat of a different brand...needed good live wells
for the inshore fishing I was doing at the time.
Sold to get the 22' Outrage.
The 11' was too small, upgraded to a 13'.
I use the 13' for very shallow inshore fishing.
The 15' is up north as a summer vacation lake ski boat.
The 22' "under renovation" when finished will be the weekender.
If I had to do it over:
I would have kept the second 17 Montauk.
Never purchased the 11', or the 13', as the 15' would go shallow enough.
Used the 17' as the skiboat.
And would be enjoying the 15',17' and 22' when finished.

My excuse for so many Whalers is that I started with a 13'...then thought I needed more space so I got a Nauset. Then a person saw the Nauset and had to have it so I sold it for what I thought was a good price. Then I bought a Montauk AND a 5.2 Harpoon on the sale day. Fixed up and sold the Harpoon. A few years later I sold the Montauk to move up to a 1973 Whaler 19'. Meantime bought a Squall because it was a good deal ($200 with rigging and sail). Now I'd like to sell the Whaler 19' and move back to a Montauk so I can tow with a smaller (V6 engine) car. I guess I can't make up my mind and for me the fun is in the restoration. I acutally only use the boat 6X a summer.

Hi, Whalers have come and gone through out my life. Grew up with a 13 and when I got married bought my first 13 for $450.00 with an Johnson 40hp.I then bought one for $100.00 to restore and sell which I did for $500.00. When we moved inland we sold our 13 Whaler. After a few years we had a chance to purchase a 13 fixer upper but the prices went way up. we paid $750. with a 35 Johnson and trailer. After spending another $1000 we had our whaler once again even though it was a different hull. With the family growing the 13 just was not big enough. We then purchased a fixer upper 19' Mako.Sold the 13 and restored the Mako.A few years later looking for a stable boat to fly fish from with my son I purchased a fixer upper 13 for $500. After investing another $1000 we had a 13 once more. But being tired of hitting each other with flies the 13 had to go and we now for the past 6 years have restored and used a 1962 17' Nauset.Currently I am now restoring another 17' 1969 Nauset for resale. Notice that I did not use the word investing till I mentioned the last 13 because, the price of whalers have gone up to prices no one could have dreamed of years ago. The prices that I paid for them at the time were the going rate of that time late 1960's thru the 1980's.Sorry, I guess I started to ramble but in thinking about all our Whalers has brought back countless memories as a boy, beginning life with my mate, and our children growing up ,now starting their own families.Who would have thought that a "funny looking" boat would have such a meaning throughout ones life. Take care, Dino Oh yea, the count is 7 owned- 5) 13' whalers (sold), and 2 17' Nauset's still in my possession .

Probably the corporation that controls the whaler.com website.

First one was purchased in spring 1984 (13 w/35 Johnson)
Since then, I have owned 27 other Boston Whalers.
The bulk of them have been 17 Montauks, but have also had 19 Revenge, (2)18 Outrages, bunch of 13 and a Banana Boat (best riding hull I ever had on the Delaware Bay.)
A few of the 28 I've only owned for a few hours (bought and sold them on the same weekend)
Current project is a 1977 Montauk. Found this boat in New York City area. It came with an after market center console and seat powered by a 50 HP Honda.
Ripped the seat and console out, changing the 50 Honda to a tiller and installing 2 bench seats and side rails.
I've always wanted a 17 with a tiller. I'll use it to troll around the Navisink and Shrewsbery Rivers in NJ
"only 2 things make life worth livin.....Boston Wahlers and firm feelin women"

13 Sport, 17 Montauk in the past (I can't remember the vintage), 1985,18 Outrage and a 2007, 190 Outrage currently but from this afternoon, I will have only the 190 Outrage as the 18 Outrage has found a new home, sob, sob! The new owner did an inspection and sea trial yesterday and was a happy camper.

I will agree that Clark Roberts has owned the most Whalers but he also owned many for work, etc. That is almost like saying a Whaler rental place takes the trophy for owning 125. As an individual and not a "fleet" owner I believe I am second around here with I think 24 total and 6 at one time in my yard. Years ago I was in the Whaler hall of fame but was beat pretty quickly. The person who has owned more than me I believe is Tom Clark but I forget who it is exactly. Hopefully we will find out.

Total of 27 Boston Whalers. Three purchased new. The last one was a 1961 Nauset to use a chase boat in sailing regattas to keep track of grandkids . The other 24 were a wide variety purchased used, all used by us, and not in the used boat business. That’s 50 years of Whalers.

Hope to do the 2010 Mahattan Run with the 1962 Eastport.

Four boats in the stable at this time.

1959 13’ Sport (#139) 40th Boston Whaler built working project
1961 16’7” Nauset
1962 16’7” Eastport
1968 9’2” Squall

Just for the record: I don't know where Tohsgib got his info that I was in rental business etc. I never had any boat related business. Tosh... where did you hear that!? Get your facts straight! Clark

I never said you were in the rental business. I used that as a metaphor. What I said was that you have used Whalers as work boats which is different than a recreational user. Is that OK?
Clark Roberts posted 04-16-2010 02:10 PM ET (US)     Profile for Clark Roberts  Send Email to Clark Roberts
Tohs, no that's not ok! I have only used boats for recreational purposes (Whalers are my hobby) and never for commercial purposes. Where do you get off making up and spreading false information about me or anyone else... you don't know me or anything about me. Is that clear enough!?

Clark, I think he tried to use a hypothetical example of a place rental place that might have more Whalers at one time than anyone else This is what he said, "That is almost like saying a Whaler rental place takes the trophy for owning 125." and I had to read it twice.

I think he meant you have worked on a lot of Whalers "I will agree that Clark Roberts has owned the most Whalers but he also owned many for work, etc."

No Whaler battles. War is obsolete

I cant claim any prize here as I have had only my 1 Whaler
1987 Montauk I bought new . But thats the way it tis with many owners of Boston Whalers. Why buy another boat when you already own the best!

Sorry if the first picture of your sign says "Creek Watch" in my book that is a job like "neighborhood watch". If I use my car for "neighbor watch patrol" it is being used for a job. I am sorry if I got that confused with recreational boating exclusivity. I hardly think I was spreading false information as everyone else clearly understood what I meant.

You would make a great personal injury lawyer bigshot.

I've only owned one Whaler myself.
