The weather has finally started to look spring-like here in Southern Virginia. I put my 1974 Revenge 21 in the water last Friday for the first trip of the year. Weather was gorgeous, but no fishies (three sand sharks don’t count). However, it looks to be another great striper year when the season opens up. Below is a cell-phone shot leaving the harbor at “Oyster” on the Virginia Eastern Shore (ocean side). Boy, is that the land that time has forgotten… it’s a fun place to just explore and I’ll be going back when the water warms up. There were no flounder last Friday, but there will be some serious specks and puppy drum (red fish) in a few months. http://s34.photobucket.com/albums/d114/Loafer_/Revenge%2021/ ?action=view¤t=IMAG0018.jpg By the way, I am elated to see the salmon-fest starting strong this year on the west coast. Go git-em. L |

You miss salmon fishing on the west coast, don't you, Loafer? Well so did I for the past two years when the seasons were closed, and this year it looks like we're only going to have the month of April. Still, your coastal location looks beautiful, and your boat as well. I only feel sorry for the folks who have never had their Whalers out in the ocean or on one of the Great Lakes--they can't begin to understand the amazing sea-keeping qualities of their craft. Tight lines out there, old bud, Tony |

The Revenge looks great, nice restoration. I've always liked the look of those first Generation Revenge models, so it's nice to see another one given a new lease on life. |

Yep, Tony, lots o’ things I miss about the West Coast… fresh caught kings being near the top of the list (uh, next to abalone, fog horns at 3 am, zinfandel, gravenstein apples and contour intervals closer than one foot every five miles). Lots o’ good stuff out here too though: killer striper fishing, speckled trout (salt water… not a salmonid), red fish, plenty of boating opportunities, warm ocean water (in the summer), real beaches, yellow fin tuna plentiful and (relatively) cheap, and bread… I mean really good bread on the East Coast. Flying out to CA next week to attend to family visits. I’ll probably be shipping a mixed case or two from Loxton winery… maybe Rust Ridge also. Fantastic red juice, hand crafted and v. toothsome. Haven’t had much time to fish or whaler or even post on Continuous Wave the last few years… been practically commuting to India. That together with fuel tank, carburetor, and trailer woes have kept me off the water much of last year. But this year should be better. If I kill something edible… I’ll post pics. Andy, thanks for the complement, but she’s truly a “20-footer.” That is, looks great from 20 feet away. Closer inspection will definitely show her age. I’ve loved the banana Revenge hulls since the first time I saw one; and the more I’ve run her, the more I like the hull now. I don’t regret any of the work I put into bringing her back and it’s kind of fun to have boat where I can truly say I have installed every bolt and rivet including rigging the engine, wiring, plumbing and minor wrench work on the power-head plus complete tear-down and reconstruction of the trailer. Hah! If I charged myself $0.50/hour I could go out and buy a new one, hell... buy two. Will try for some better pics of our East Coast fish extermination efforts. L |

Why not drop me an email a day or so before you arrive and we'll set up a salmon fishing trip, weather permitting, in either my Montauk or with Matt and/or Warren in our partnership banana Revenge? Yeah...the 'red juice'. That and the coast are really Sonoma County's only raisons d'etre. Whoops...shouldn't forget the world class bike riding, I guess. Tony |

Thanks for the invite, Tony... I'd love to see your "beta" Revenge first hand. However, my social director has me booked solid (and I mean on an hourly basis) from wheels down to wheels up. May be my last chance for a West Coast salmon trip too... However, there is a fillet or two in the fridge out there that I'm scheduled to eat at 6:37 Wednesday night. L |
