I came across this article while looking at old Popular Science magazines on google. It's a review of a 1966 16 operating in the Pacific outside San Francisco. Pretty cool.

Found a couple of other Whaler articles too but this one was the most comprehensive. Besides the Whaler article the magazine has some great articles and how-tos besides the adds being interesting.

Very cool indeed. It's funny to look thru the whole mag and see what was "new and the latest" for that time. Some neat projects and info that is still relevant and useful as it was then. My dad the pack rat probably has this actual issue in one of those damn boxes in the attic...
Anybody catch the Brunswick ad towards the bottom? Paging Mr. Serling....

What best about the Whaler pictures is look at the prices...

Yup... sign me up for a new Sakonnet! I'd even want the engine. What an excellent article, well done for sharing.

Also enjoyed all of the classified ads... it's sometimes hard to remember how much we used to rely on these magazine classified before we could find everything we want online. I mean, everyone needs instructions on how to start an earthworm farm.

I will vouch for the 1966 Homelite. I'm running one on my 73 CohassetII. It is a perfect combination of engine and hull. The Homelite idles down to 1 1/2 mph for trolling and you never have to worry about loading up and fouling out the engine.
