I am new to Whalers having just completed a 6 month project restoring a 25' Guardian with twin 150HP merc motors. I launched the boat this week and noticed that the stern thru hull drains are about 3 inches below the water line when the boat is not moving. As a result, the spash well fills with about 3 inches of water. The water drains out quickly as soon as the boat moves forward. Is water in the splash well normal for a whaler?

The restoration project included the removal and repair of the rear deck. Removal of foam from the rear of fuel cell compartment and installation of a system to drain water from the compartment. The addition of a bilge pump in the port aft sump. Replacement of all fuel hoses and bilge hoses. Refurbishment of T-top. Rewiring of the electrical. Repairs to the hull. I have photos if there is any interest.

I have a 1988 22 outrage the same thing happens with my craft. It is ok. Unless it is a large wave when fishing water does come across my floor, if it does I have 2 pumps in just above the plugs. Some guys plug the holes and put in a pump. The boats are designed to have the plugs open. hope that helps

It sounds normal for the added weight of a Guardian. Our 22 sits with about 1 1/2" - 2 1/2" of water in the splashwell without anyone aboard while at rest depending on fuel load. Our 22 is rigged with twin Mercury XR6 150hp 2.5 liter V6's.

We only have one Thu-hull low in the middle of the transom. Here are some detailed images.
