Well I bought the 15' Edgewater center console last week and we're having a blast with it :) Sorry it isn't a Whaler, but I looked all over without success in finding one near enough and within my price range. Overall, we're quite happy with the performance, but it rides starboard bow high when on plane. It sits flat when at rest or trolling. I've tried moving weight around, nada. I found the Nauticus SX series trim tabs, which are supposedly auto adjusting and about $120 for a set. Has anyone had any experience with these? TIA

Trim tabs on a 15' boat? Do you have too much power on her?

It's rated for 90hp, and that's what's on it. It runs great, doesn't act overpowered. Like I said, for whatever reason it runs with the starboard bow up a tad and wondering if these tabs would help that.

Would an engine trim tab adjustment make any difference in this situation? I seem to remember the 15 Edgewater as being a bit beamier than a similar length Whaler.

Thanks, Butch you're right, it is a pretty wide boat, about 11" wider than the 15 Dauntless. I've tried messing with the trim tab/anode on the engine. It's already as far over as it will go.

I decided to order a set after reading everything I could from as many sources as possible. I did this in spite of emailing them, no answer. Calling, being told they'd call back and didn't. (very polite though). I ran a mail order business for 32 years and it was priority #1 to ALWAYS email back promptly or call back if you said you would. However, I know just how difficult it can be to have all employees on board with that and slip ups happen. They're supposed to be here tomorrow, hope to install this weekend. It's going to be a tight fit as there is a swim platform on the port side that will make for some snug work, and possibly a small extra piece of aluminum or such to make it all fit. Once they are on and I've had a chance to sea trial I'll report on how they do. If they do 50% of what they say, for $120, they'll be pretty cool.

The trim anode is for steering pull. If it is already over to one side that means it must be pulling like a witch. If so that could be why you are bow high because you are compensating for it. Once you have the tabs on center the anode. If it pulls left then move it left a bit until it drives center. If it pulls right, move it right.

I come on here to learn and occaisionally share; this isn’t about my 13’ whaler, but about the Nauticus SX tabs I put on my 21 Proline walkaround. I suggest doing the following to enhance optimizing adjustments: the mounts to the transom are offset - look close; mount them so that if you have to after a sea trial, you can flip them 180 degrees, which reduces the static angle of the tab. I had mine on the softest setting and believe it or not it still pushed the bow down more than I wanted; I flipped my transom mounts over, which brings the tabs up just a bit further, and it’s perfect for the loads I usually carry.
Bennett’s or Lenco’s would have been nice, but saving $400 is significant, and the wife won’t get confused and misuse the Nauticas.

You're right, moving the anode did have an effect on both the list and the steering pull. No matter where I put it, couldn't do much for the list, hence the trim tabs.

Tadpole, thanks for the mounting tip on the tabs, I will definitely make sure to install so I can flip the mounts if needed.

The install yesterday was as easy as advertised. They even come with a DVD that details the install (and is good marketing as well). It really is a 30min- 1 hour job. Except in my case I needed to remove the port side swim platform and that took 1/2 the day. Putting the platform back on today, installing the new fishfinder and hopefully getting it back in the water tonight or tomorrow. Will report back on the performance changes later.

Let us know about the performance, perhaps in the PERFORMANCE discussion.
