Here are some project pictures of a 1971 Nauset that I am restoring. Thinking of building stern seat but not sure. Project is underway but the important stuff is done. Want to use the boat with the kids for the season and pick up again over the winter.

I had the boat out for the Manhattan Run in June, sans windshield. Now that it is on it feels complete.

Many members gave me advice over the past year and the posted photos served as inspiration. Thanks!

Wow!

I really enjoyed those photos, thanks for sharing.

One of the best things was that it appears your whole family helped out in the process, which is great (although I'm sure you spent hours on your own working hard, too!).

Congrats on a great restoration/rebirth.

Nice job, I would put a safety chain on your small outboard to the inside lifting ring, Clamp on engines have a tendency to vibrate off, and you will lose your kicker...

How did you get your son to sand? Is there a trick to it? Your boat is beautiful! What paint did you use on the inside?

Thanks for the knid remarks. The boat has been really fun.

My older son (12) got into the restoration work with me and my Dad (he is the one in most of the pictures. 69 and going strong) and I am so glad he did. We took the boat from NJ up to Lake Wallenpaupack in PA this weekend and were constantly complimented on the boat. He told me several times that he loves the Whaler and the work we did on it. Priceless memories from him and the other 2 kids.

Plus my wife bought herself a new life jacket, so that means she got bit by the Whaler bug as well. She and the 12 year old will take the NJ Safety course in January when he hits 13.

The paint I used was Signature Finish from Florida. I used 1 coat and it is holding up very well.

Trying to get the most out of the season while we still have the time.

Jon,

The boat is looking great. It is hard to believe that is the same boat that we saw at the Manhattan Rendez-Vous.

Great work.

How did you like Lake Wallenpaupack? My family loves spending the day there, but we have yet to make it this year. Perhaps between now and school.

Thanks. We liked the lake. We went tent camping at the Ledgedale Rec Area ($22/night and $8 for weekend ramp use). Our site was far from rustic but were tired and didn't care too much. Lake was nice; a lot like Hopatcong. Went the length of the Lake, tied up for lunch, anchored off of an island and swam/floated. Sunday was overcast so we didn't stay out long.
