Hi Guys. A guy who lives near me in Ireland has a 15-footer for sale. Do you think that the asking price is reasonable at 3,500 euro, about $2,800 approx. Is the console a homemade job do you think? I think she would look a lot better stripped back and refitted with a less cluttered mahogony seat and console arrangement. Quick replies appreciated,as she wont be around for long I feel! www.donedeal.ie/boston whaler Willie, |

Hi Willie This could be a difficult question for the Americans to answer, mostly because we pay in Euros or Pounds what the Americans pay in Dollars so your boat would be $3500 in America. That's just the way it is unfortunately. The link works for me here in the UK, I have looked and I would be interested but the trailer looks tired and is probably rusting from the insides of the tubes outwards so have a good hard prod with a screwdriver. Standard things you need to check for on a Whaler purchase can be found using the Search facility here but if the boat is not waterlogged and the trailer and outboard check out then you will love Whaler ownership. That console seems to be a modified OEM Winged console from Whaler. Interesting to see it on a 15. As for the price? Someone local would know best but, here in the states that boat could bring $2,500 - $4,500 or so. One thing I will say is that 3 cylinder Merc was a notorious motor for poor idle and a very rough runner. I hated mine. No matter what I tried I could not get it to idle well while in neutral, nor in gear. That thing was so LOUD as well. It was the only old classic two stroke I ever hated. The best it ever ran was the weekend before I sold it. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v427/jeff_rohlfing/?action=view& current=20090906_160856.mp4 |

Engine is a 75-77 so not new in any way. The console I like, the seat I think you could do something better. That boat here might fetch $3500us. |

Thanks for the responses guys. I rang the guy today and made an offer of 2,500 euro, thats 1,000 euro less than the asking price!! He said he`d have a think about it,so fingers crossed. Do you think that console would be worth keeping, and if i were to change the seating, what do you think would be more suitable?? |

I like the console and it is an OEM console to boot. The seat I would rather see a cooler seat than that, looks heavy as well. |

I like the console also, but would change the seat to an aluminum framed leaning/post type. That way you could still have the fuel under it. I used Carolina Skiff channel on mine to run all the wiring from the console to the engine area. This along with moving the battery under the console, opened up the available deck space, and made for a neat installation. That hull works VERY well with a 2-stroke 70HP or 90HP Yamaha, as they are very close in weight. |

Could the steering wheel be changed to a stainless steel one without too much difficulty?? I don`t think the wheel on the console at the moment does it any justice. |

Steering wheel should be easy enough to change to a stainless one. I really like the console & seat. Looks like it has a bunch of usable storage spaces. Older motor, so it is key having the kicker. Where will you be using the boat? Ocean or lakes? |

It will be solely be used on lakes. Where I live in Ireland,I have direct access to Lough Corrib,(Irelands second biggest lake)from the end of my garden. I can be in Galway city in 30 mins. I own a Rage 15 at the moment but I`m sick of its unreliability. I love the older classic whalers though, but I can`t afford to have 2 boats. I would really hate to sell the Rage 15 onto someone, knowing their troublesome nature. |

Hi Guy`s, The seller rang me on Saturday, accepting my offer of 2,500 euro.(US$3,400). It seems a fair enough price I think, even though the motor may have to be updated in the near future. Its either buy this boat, and put a bit of work into her,or pull the Turbojet out of my Rage 15 and convert to an outboard set up. What do ya think??? |

Aside from the BW Rage`s history of engine problems, how do you guys rate the hull for build quality, seating lay out, ride comfort etc..?? What do you think are the disadvantages or advantages of the Rage hull to the Sport 15 hull set up??? Look forward to your responses. |

Someone I know got rid of the rage jet and made a bracket for it and installed a 90 hp tohatsu outboard. Looks and goes great and it has a huge storage space where the old engine/jet was. Buy the 15 sport for that price. |

Aside from the problematic 115hp engine on the Rage,do you think the hull is worth keeping and converting to an outboard set up??or would you guys sooner the older Sport that`s for sale? |

Nick, he already owns the Rage. I have seen one converted rage, but I have never rode in one so have no clue how it would handle. Personally I would sell the rage & get the 15; it will be cheaper in the long run. You will be able to enjoy the 15 immediately. |

You obviously haven`t been reading my posts correctly Tohsgib.. I ALREADY own a Rage 15,but am in the process of buying a Sport.(The owner works away and is only available at weekends, therefore we haven`t completed the transaction yet.) I was simply asking for any comments on how a 15ft. Rage (converted to an outboard)compares to a 15ft. Sport for ride comfort, manouverability, resale etc,etc... Willie |

Ireland is a buyers market for everything right now. I would go back and ofer 1/2 of what you did. 1500 EU is plenty for a boat in IRE right now. Seriously. No oneis buying anything. Offer him 1000-1500. |

There is a 15' rage at my dock that was converted . He had someone very experienced in fiberglass work make a bracket for it. From what he told me that model engine/jet was troublesome. I would like to think that someone out there makes a metal bracket for that conversion. If you went that route you would have to seal the hole in the boat, get a bracket and you will need a longer steering cable that goes thru the transom to reach the engine. His set-up looks good and sits in the water good. Im sure the 90 hp motor he has goes at least as fast as the 115 hp jet. As far as resale value ,who knows? If yours still ran I would sell it. |

Finally tracked down the owner yesterday and completed the transaction. We settled on 2,600 euro for boat, trailer and both engines. I`m gonna convert my Rage to an outboard over the winter and sell her on. Lookin forward to a weekend of boating on my new 15 before it gets too cold Yippee!!!!!!!! |
