When I was getting ready to refurbish a beat up 16 hull back in 2008 I first started collecting pictures of different interiors, cabins and railings that I thought were unusual or very functional and put them in to a collection while I decided what to do. While doing so I also realized how versatile and easily adaptable these hulls were to the individual owner. I have made a little slide show of some different pictures I collected and thought I would share them with others. Some of you have probably seen some of these pictures before some are classic whaler layouts. Hope you enjoy the show and maybe these pictures will help you make some decisions about your own boat. You have to look at some of these boats closely to see the nuances in the interiors and some are very obvious.

Fish: All of your pictures taken I think really show how people customize their Whalers for their own uses (except one or two that have kept them original) Your idea of collecting different pictures of boats before you did yours is excellent(I look all the time for the same). I'm all for innovation and ideas and how to make things better and easier. A lot of the customs are due to the location of were you live and what you want to do (cruise, cool weather, ski, fish, and or dive). Even down to the railings depending on if you have a family or just like the look. I live in South Fla, I use my boat for fishing and diving I just got done redoing it this year (1975 Whaler) I like my boat simple and easy and one that is easy to take care of and clear of clutter. I do not know how to post pictures on this site but I will send you some pictures of my Whaler and the look that I like....Take care

Great stuff, Tim. Glad my shot of the "unusual cabin" blue hull red cabin 16 in Kauai made the cut. There are a number of creatively converted Whalers in the Islands, and I posted several photos of some of them earlier this year.

I'm totally on the same page as contender about being "all for innovation and ideas and how to make things better and easier." Much as I enjoy seeing classic Whalers lovingly restored to their original state, I'm even more interested in the many creative modifications made by their owners for particular specialized uses.

Thanks for the photo collection...a nice Xmas treat.

Tony

I continue to be amazed by peoples innovations on this hull. As a result of this posting a few guys sent me additional pictures and with their permission I added those pictures to the collection, enjoy! The Fire Fighting 17 is pretty cool never would have thought of that. Also, some console and cabin innovations that could really stand on their own in that the few pictures I posted with short explanations really don't do them justice.

Just looking at some of those designs makes me want to find an older hull and experiment. Pity, so many boats, too little time!

Great stuff Tim! Thanks for putting that together! I'm sure the show will grow with more mods. I have to point out the typo- you mispelled "Menemsha"! I think the best looking part of the Menemsha is the stern view with the teak woodwork contrasting the blue interior.-k

Spelling of Menemsha corrected. I am glad you guys enjoyed the show. DaveS I keep thinking that I want another one also. I love some of the designs/ideas that people have come up with for this hull.
