Apparently some of them like to read through the listings in the Marketplace and call up the sellers, ask ridiculous questions and direct personal attacks at the sellers.

I say this because I've now experienced it several times over the last few years, with several different boats I've listed for sale on CW. Specifically one person, who always conceals his caller ID, and never reveals his name, and seems to have a particulurly strong distaste for boats that have seen saltwater use.

I'm assuming that this is just some lonely, pathetic person who has nothing better to do with his time than to call up and harrass CW members. I must not be alone in experiencing this. I have to ponder the question; is this one of our fellow CW contributors, or just some person who floats through, reading the ads in the Marketplace without ever contributing anything positive?

Oh, that's just Greg Olsen (aka The Whaler Guy, et al).

He's nuts.

To answer the question in your thread title:
I surf (waves), race cars, play with computers, (Mac, Linux, and Windows), maintain my equipment, extreme coffee hobbyist, (including roast my own coffee beans for espresso).

Along the lines of the main body content of your post:
Recently, I've been enjoying very much dealing with a particular, very forthcoming and friendly seller of an Alert/Montauk. He is exactly NOT the kind of aloof, uncommunicative, one-word-answers, Montauk seller that has caused me to think better of risking a big chunk of change. He offers more than I ask for when I ask. That kind of trait makes me feel more like he's not hiding anything.

Boats are like women. I like boats. Therefore, I also like women (in my spare time). Just simple logic.

The cooler weather in S/W Florida, makes boat upkeep/mods,
much more comfortable then in the humid summer months.
And allows time to check out the CW.
*Enjoyed the Lake Superior voyage!!
What a beautiful area to boat/camp.

Regardless of claims made I imagine we all do about the same as I. Whatever our spouses tell us to do.

Getting ready to redue/upgrade two more boats. I like tinkering in the garage. Coming up with other ideas to change/upgrade stuff, building useless stuff (golf ball launcher, rocket launcher air powered) also fix-en bike flats for all the kids in the neighbor hood and taken care of the house, but no snow to plow...

I like to rip up the steeps and throw my carcass off big cliffs at Squaw Valley USA. Skiing is actually my #1 passion, fishing and Whalering is a close 2nd though. Actually, I take that back, spending time with my adorable 2.5 year old daughter is by far my favorite thing to do!

Snow skiing, hiking, backpacking, photography, travel. I enjoy combining these too. Last year I did some backpacking on Kauai which was spectacular (Kalalau Trail and a trail in the Waimea Canyon area) and lots of photography and hiking in Southern Africa. Three weeks each in Western Europe and Eastern Australia made for an awesome travel year.

1. Go diving off the whaler.

2. Work to feed the Nikon, diving, and whaler habits.

3. Work on fixing up Adm. Linda's Dive Shack in Monterey, where
the whaler now lives.

4. See 2.

Play with Boats. Dive. Fly Fighters.

I don't answer phones when caller ID is blocked, or is an 800 or 888 number, thus alleviating the issues cited in the original post. I hang up when people bore or annoy me. After all, it's *my* phone... ;-)

Life is good!

My landlubber freetime is spent playing bluegrass banjo, guitar, Playstation 3 videogames, online chess, photography (new Leica!), and casino slotmachines. Other than that, I'm not doing much ^_^

Well, now I have his phone number, which should make things a little more interesting.

He is clearly a very vile and pathetic person.

From what I've seen lately, it looks like a good percentage of Whaler owners spend their time trying to figure out which products they own, in addition to their Whalers, make them superior to other people.

How can having “things” make anyone superior?

When not on the boat in San Juan, P.R. I work in Port au Prince, Haiti. Then I dream of when I'm going to be back on the Whaler again........
