Hello All--I bought a 13 foot project for my boys and I need some help with the HIN. The stenciled number is 2C1518. Is there anyway to get the HIN from this? The small tag has been torn off of the transome. I figure I will need the HIN for the DMV. All i have is a bill of sale so no title to look at. Thanks in advance for any help.

If you contact Boston Whaler Customer Service, they may be able to look up your hull's Stenciled Serial Number and be able to tell you its HIN as well as when it was made and where it was shipped.

Thanks, excellent idea. [Boston Whaler customer service] dug up the HIN for me.Where do [I] find [or] how can [I] fix the thru-hull drain? The copper tube has corronded all the way through around the transom opening.--Brad

The drain tube is brass, not copper. There is extensive previous discussion of how to replace these drain tubes. This should get you started:

I myself have two 13' projects going as well, and I'm brand new to the boat restoration world. Good luck on finding the HIN [octothorpe], not sure what to tell you on that. My 1970 has the tag still on the transom like yours, but my 1956 doesn't, guess it got ripped off in the past 60 years--ha. Well, I'll keep in touch with your posting and if if there is anything that I go through that may help out I will let you know. Good Luck!

If your 1970 has a HIN tag on the transom it likely is not a 1970. I beleive Whaler did not put HINs on the transom before 1972. Also, the first HINs where ebossed into the transom and where not done as metal tags. The metal tags showed up in the Mid 70's. So, what does you HIN read then?

Even without a HIN, both of your hulls should have Stencil Numbers which will help identify the years of your hulls.

I recommend a thorough reading of all the answers to all the frequently asked questions. See

http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/FAQ/

The answers to the frequently asked questions have been rather thoroughly researched and prepared. They are written in a concise style, so do not be fooled by their brevity.
