Only the "stamped" portion of my serial number is legible on my 1984 Montauk. So I called Chuck at Boston Whaler and after he researched the "hand-written" books, he was able to give me the portion I couldn't make out: BWCH. Come to find out it left Rockland Mass on 1/23/84 and was delivered to Beck and Roy Marine in Saraland Alabama. (The Beck and Roy Marine sticker is still on the transom.) I have always wondered if it was originally purchased there or just passed through at some point, now I know. So thanks to Chuck at Boston Whaler for a little back-story on my whaler!

My thanks go out to Chuck as well. He did the same thing for me for my 1979 15 Sport. |

I'll 3rd that. He has always answered my emails on any question I may ask, including researching my serial # ('73 Outrage Banana). Thank you for outstanding service. |

I thought it was neat that the boat stayed relatively close to where it was originally delivered 27 years ago. The original dealer (Saraland, AL) is on the other side of the bay from where I bought the boat (Gulf Shores, AL) three years ago. |

I should say the original dealer was in Saraland at some point. A quick google search doesn't return any results for Beck and Roy Marine, so who knows how long it's been gone. |

A tip o' the hat to Chuck Bennett of Boston Whaler. He's the point-of-contact for many Boston Whaler boat owners, and the Boston Whaler company could not have a finer fellow representing them. |

Chuck has been wonderful to me (and the rest of us) over the years. I try not to suggest badgering him for hull information too much because it is a very tedious process he goes through to look up hull-specific information. He has to paw through volume and volumes of hand written entries for the old Whalers; there is no fancy-pants data base for the old boats. It is a lot of work. Ask him for the favor of his assistance with care. |

Another "pat on the back" for Chuck, he has been very helpful whenever I have questions about my Whaler. Chuck is an asset to Boston Whaler (and owners!).Robert |

Perhaps we could send an intern to Chucks office to get the info on a disk. It would be a shame if the data was lost or damaged. Maybe someone with a college age child interested in the boating business would propose this to Whaler. |

From the FAQ: --- Missing Letters or Numbers on Metal Tag The embossed metal tag has proven to be less permanent than the stenciled number, and it is subject to loss or discoloration which makes it hard to read. Portions of the number may have been pre-printed and not embossed, leading to difficulty in interpretation of the number because only the embossed portion remains legible. Typically the HIN begins with "BWC", the MIC for Boston Whaler. This may have been only printed on the aluminum tag and have faded with age. --- |
