How far do you have to travel to get to your marine store?
How offen do you go?

I have to travel about 35 miles (45 minutes) to get marine supplies. I try not to make special trips, but rather purchase supplies when I'm boating in coastal waters. I buy stuff by mail order a lot, provided the shipping cost is reasonable.

I am lucky. 3 miles to www.hamiltonmarine.com

With all the boat and trailer projects done, I usually go once in the winter and once in the late summer.

About 5 miles and I'm there twice a month or so. they have a great staff and I always seem to learn something new each time. West Marine with Bill Christy as a whaler expert!

Western Auto 7-miles. 2,862 miles to Hamilton Marine in Searsport, ME - actually made it there in 2008 when my girls were going to Colby College.

About 25 miles each way. Mostly used parts and hardware. Some new stuff. Don`t go often though.
Unusual thread. This must be a slow time for boating/fishing.

also:
boat ramp 10 miles
use of 13 foot Whaler, not much(too windy, to cold, too hot, wrong tide, too busy, no time, too much work on other boats)
gas station- 2 miles once a week
grocery store, 2 miles, when food runs out, mostly eat dinner at girl friends home-2 miles, or at "Sweet Tomatoes" restaurant with girl friend twice a week- 20 miles each way.
Bowling alley 2 miles, 4-5 nights a week

Clements Marina is 80 mi. from my house in Eugene Oregon, so 90% of boat related purchases are internet. I use the usual suspects, but do shop websites for best price.

About 3 miles. I go as infrequently as possible, everything there is horribly expensive!

I guess my post had to do with availability of parts/equipment/boat stuff. I guess living in the South Fla area I'm very fortunate. I have marine stores everywhere and I'm able to shop around for the right part. One street in Ft Lauderdale is called Marina Blvd. and is connected to the waterway/intercoastal on both sides of the street. Heading east toward the beach on this road there is a warehouse district that basically caters to the marine industry(you can find anything marine here from anchors to welding shops and everything in between). After the warehouses West Marine is building a mega store which will be 2 blocks from a B.O.W., and in between them is a another large store called Sailor-man that sells use equipment for all size boats and yachts. All of these places in a small area and this does not include the boat/ engine dealers which are not far from here either...

Contender, you live in the boating Mecca of the country. I love to go there(Miami-Ft. Lauderdale) everything and then some is there. Have you been over to SE 188st. in S. Miami lately? (Thunderboat Row). I hear the street has a new name and it is all office buildings now. They should build a memorial for Don Aronow there.

Grew up not to far from there (little more south but I know it well), have not been there in a while, really no reason to go to that area anymore. I do know that they have built a bunch of boat storage/dry racks/buildings in that area now for boats, also the buildings have gone north a bit. I see in your attachment has a picture of Mr Lansky, meet him a 2-3 times in the early eights before his passing. My girl friend worked for his Dr. and I would meet her for lunch so I got to meet him...Take care Bink

OMG Binkster, that article brings back memories of growing up in Miami Beach, North Miami. I went to school with one of the Cary boys and even visited one of the boat manufacturing plants when I was a teen. Little did I know that I was hanging around with a guy whose father was involved with Aronow. Those were crazy days.
