Went out on Lake Erie today around the Islands with my daughter. Took my 1988 22 ft outrage. waves 5 to 7 water temp was 68 . Had a great time. Very few boats out. Got to love the Whalers. To bad my dad was not there with us. He has been gone 12 years. Dad would have loved to be on the old whaler again. He was I put his old boat shoes on it with us. RIP dad

I miss my dad too. He died about a year and a half ago. He was one of those old hard as nail types, worked and played hard. The last fun type thing in his life was a boat ride in the Montauk. I do think of him often when fishing for trout under a cork. He was a fishing fool, loved it.

Hope all of you had a great fathers day.

Rick

Slick 50. I know how you feel. Just before dad died he said I would like one more ride. He go bad so fast we could not get him to the boat. 4 years later I completely cleand the boat out and found an old pair of his boat shoes where he left them. They were living in Fl at the time. Well every year the shoes go back in the same place and I feel he is still there. Enjoy your boating peace. Joe

Joe,

I love that you still carry is shoes aboard the Outrage. It's the same reason I carried my grandfather's boat's name on to my Whalers.

I was fortunate enough to get out with my Father and son (and Whaler friends) for the day on Saturday which was followed up by dinner and cruise with my mother, wife and daughter aboard the 23.

Sunday afternoon I was able get out again with my Wife and kids for an afternoon cruise and swim aboard our 17 Newport. It really was a awesome weekend filled with fun and lots of family time. My soul is fully charged right now : ].

This is my favorite shot from the weekend. It's my Father and my son aboard our 23 cruising North on a placid Lake Huron Saturday Morning. Looking at the photo I see myself 31 years ago sitting in the passenger seat of our 16' AMF cruising across a dead calm Hamlin Lake in Northern Michigan....

Thanks, Jeff for posting. It is very nice to know other owners feel the same as me about the past with parents and whalers. My daughter who is 31 love to go out with me and ride around the Erie Islands. She also dive with me in Fl.
